1972 Firebird 455 HO

Hi All,
New to the forum and will appreciate info on this Bird that I acquired recently. According to the VIN it`s not a TransAm just a Bird with the 455 HO engine and a 400 auto tranny. The motor is a matching number case. But I can`t find information on this particular breed. VIN is 2U87X2N525633. Any info is more than welcome. It is a running car stock in need of minor mechanical, looks like anyway, work and a few small lower rust spots in the usual places. Thanks.

Hey if you have the vin then you can get all the information on the car from Pontiac Historical Services for about $35 and you get all the original papaerwork too. http://www.phs-online.com/

I have a 77 T/A w/ the Olds 403 I scored in LA and drove back to NYC.

For restoration you should know that most of your parts are interchangeble with all 1970-81 Firebirds and Camaros; somethings will be Specific for your engine. I think there might have been some slight changes in 74 , but most changes are cosmetic only.
You're probably gonna enjoy working on the car because its just so dam easy to trouble shoot and work on, and has soo much room, I swapped out the PVC part of the fuel lines by the gas tank w/o even jacking the car up. If you're looking for parts there are a lot of good stores on ebay and sellers I can recomend, Parts are generaly Cheap unless you want 76-81 gold edition parts.

If it's a "real" one (documentable), it's a RARE one, and should be restored as "stock and original" to make it the best for value and posterity. I don't believe I've EVER seen a non-Formula/non-T/A that was a HO car. It's a keeper!

According to the VIN it is a Formula but from what I´ve found so far on web the Firebird was supposed to only carry up to the 400 engine not the 455 HO. This is one of the things that I would appreciate feedback on, if somebody has information on non T/A Firebirds made with the 455 HO. At some stage this car was sprayed dark green sort of a British racing green, originally it was white. Inside is also dark green and it looks like it might be the original upholstery. Your suggestion about getting the car papers from Pontiac Historical is a good one to find out more about it. Right now I am working on some oil leaks and a tune up. The car is in fairly good shape, the PO got it back on the road. He found it without the transmission but was lucky enough to find another auto 400 here in Mexico City which he refurbished. I would appreciate some leads on some good parts suppliers in the States in case I need things that aren´t available down here. It´s missing a few things but overall it´s quite complete. Right you are about the accessibility versus recent model cars it sure does have ample space to work.

No it`s not the sd version not sure but it seems like it was in 1973 that the sd was used
