Turning when 4+4 is engaged?

I have a 1994 jeep cherokee sport ..this is my first jeep...had it about 7 months now... and love it...O.K now, that winter is here, i'm really loving how it handles in the snow.. lately though I've noticed that when i turn slowly it feels as though the tire is slipping or being pushed over into the direction i'm turning and the steering wheel moves a bit as well??? But in 2wd nothing at all like that..

another question!! Is is it alright to shift into 4WD on the fly at any speed??? no manual came with my jeep so i'm not to sure about some things...

Well, as far as turning with 4x4 engaged, especially 90 degree turns on pavement is hell for your tires. That wobble is normal, my 4x4 wobbles in 4x4 while turning as well but only on dry surfaces, I usually try to stay off dry turns with my 4x4 engaged, but I don't have to worry right now it heavy winter in Minnesota, mmm, 4x4, mmmm...

as for engaging on fly, my 86' Wagoneer doesn't, but I'm sure if it's supposed to act like that or not. It usually takes me 3 tries or so to get it engaged, but I never can while moving. I can disengagejust fine while moving though.

Again, i'm not sure with the newer ones though.

The wobble is totally natural, you're feeling the front end U-joints doing their job. You'll feel it more on sharp turns and definitely on any dry surface (it's hard on everything not just the tires).

Shifting into 4WD isn't a problem on the fly (at least for my 96) as long as the rear tires are spinning the same speed as the fronts. If you try to jam it into 4 while you're peeling out, you're likely to tear something up.

According to my 1990 Cherokee Manual it says that for 4WD LO I can shift at speeds up to 5 MPH and 4WD HI up to 55 MPH but in my own experience I've shifted in and out without any problems up to 80 MPH. Jeep probably figured you shouldn't be going 80 if you need to put it in 4WD....
