i was in class today and another student told me i was wrong when i said the intake valve was bigger then the exhuast valve? am i wrong

No.

Just as an example and taken from www.sportrider.com:
On the previous 999R's engine the intake valve diameter was 40 mm with 11.71 mm
lift and the exhaust valve diameter was 33 mm with 10.5 mm lift.
