crazy idea!!

I was thinking right...not that im probably the first to think of this but...heres im idea...instead of buying the SLD for 125 bucks to stop the speed limiter cut...why dont you just wire your speedo to a toggle switch...turn it off for races and what not...then turn it on to have your speedo on the way home...it'd cost maybe 20 bucks for the toggle swithch and the wires to extend it maybe 3 feet...could you imagine the marketing possiblities on this...(maybe im just crazy) :screwy: but sounds like a good idea...i think im gonna try it. shit you could sell a toggle switch and wire kit for like 50 bucks..and say beat those high brand speed cuts...blah blah blah...and bank 30 bucks...anywho...yea i think im crazy...tell me what you think...now dont go stealing my crazy idea now...its copy writed...atleast so i say... :grinyes:

It isn't the speedometer that limits your speed.

And you wouldnt be able to market it too well... DOT would be all over your ass.

Someone could use it on the road, get pulled for going 55 in a 35, and the driver would have a plausible excuse for the speeding problem 'my speedometer doesnt work!'

You think these occurances would go un-noticed by cops, or DOT? Hell no dude.

You would have to put on your sales pitch 'for track use only!'... And then everyone would ask "Why the hell wouldnt you want to know how fast your going on the track?" And it would be a dud... Sounds like a pretty pointless idea to me.

O and my friend had a similar idea rigged up on his Zed... Your not the first.

im not saying that im the first person...that was my first sentence...and of course it would be for track use only...same as the "Sr20det and RB motors..." sold as off road or show use only...of course it would be marketed that way...and if you used it at the track...you think drag cars have speedometers...no...they have big ass tachs and temp guages everywhere..thats why most tracks have a time and mph board...thats why you get little slips at the end of your run...becuase most people at the track arent concentrating on there speed. and as for thegladhatter...i know its not the speedometer that limits the speedo...its your ecu...and the speedo sensor is what controls what your ecu thinks. so you hook the toggle switch to the speed sensor wires (on/off)..thus making the ecu think your doing 0 mph...same as if you didnt have the speed sensor hooked up...trust me i think i've thought this through...if i seem to have a folley here correct me...thanks

the part where it not being street legal is not really something to be afraid of, look how many sr20dets are out there and its totally illegal for those, but people still do it...email someone at the emisions in your state and see what he says about it, when i did he came out with a few laws and explained them too me about how it is illegal and everything..just cuz there is a law, doesnt mean it wont be broken. Good luck with this, but i dont see the point of wanting to over rev your engine..

The rev limiter is there to prevent over reving. It can be disabled with the ECU, but not recommended by the manufacturer.

yea i just dont quite get where he got over revving out of talking about the speed sensor...anywho...were talking about disabling the speed sensor not the revv limiter

well, my car "fuel cuts off" at 4 gear at 4000 rpm (116 mph) SO, fuel cut (rev limiter) is what causes the speed limit ting.

im a lazy ass i'll never get it patented...but its nice to share my ideas and see if they go anywhere...i can also say 10 years from now if i did become big i can act all grumpy and say (drunken like) "that was my idea and they stole...blah blah blah" then i can look like a crazy bastard. BTW i think the 4 grand fuel cut off is directly related to the speed sensor, just like the 115mph...so it would be the same...un hook you speed sensor and find out...ive brought my sr way above 4 grand in forth gear...with out the speed sensor in that is. Ive even had 5th gear to around 6 grand (wow thats fast)

Yeah, many people already do this. the feed from the tranny goes to the ECU to the Tach. Putting a switch before the ECU will disable the speed cut and the tach. theres an FAQ about it on 240SX.org or zilvia.com I cant remember.

oh really thats awesome...i knew i couldnt have been the first person to write this down by any means...but it is a good idea i think

all you have to do is cut the wire from the 4th or 5th or both (cant remember)tranny sensor run wires up to a toggle switch on the dash or anywhere you want it. then when you get close to hittin the cutout flip the switch. i did this to my first two 240's(been to busy to do it to the newest one) anyway it works great. just dont cut the wrong one ive heard if you do when you flip the switch youll lose that gear which could suck so test out everything before you finish oh and you can find out exactly which sensors at www.240sx.org (http://www.240sx.org) in the faq's section (i think)
