I want to know the differences in the engine between the 1990 and 1993 as far as engien specs/parts/problems go for the Eclipse GSX. my brother is looking into getting one for strictly autocross and possibly rally and wanted to get an evo, until a guy who owns an evo and is close friends with him explained to him that the car sucks on rally and that you need to mod everything. so now hes all into getting a 1st gen dsm. i told him to get a lazer or TSi but he bitchs that the car is domestic and im like, it says mitsubishi on the valve cover, but whatever. So yea the only reason im asking is because someone told me that between 90-93 and 94+ they used different cam gears or something?! and i just want to know basically. Between 1990-1993 differences in engine parts/specs/known issues with car and then 1st Gen compared to 2nd gen. i appreciate it guys. thanks

1990 - 1992 uses the 6-bolt 4g63, 1993 - 1999 uses the 7-bolt 4g63. There are very minimal differences between both generations except that in 2g's the 4g63 motor was replaced by the 420a(Chrysler) for the non-turbo models

the 1st gen talon/laser/eclipse were on made on the same factory line...there is no reason why he should choose an eclipse or talon or laser awd turbo's over each other..except for the condition and price of them...they are all the same when you compare model type for model type.

consider them all one car...find the best price/condition

search! everything you've asked so far has been discussed before and hasnt changed since then.

in short a 6 bolt is slightly more reliable and can create more power.
