hard to start in morning

My 1979 Buick Regal with a 1984 CHEV Engine (305, v-8,) I had the carb rebuilt, in the morning it turns and cranks strong, slight gas smell. I stop for 4 minutes try again and then it starts!! Idle also seems to jump, after I tap pedal and idle initially drops. Engine has just been rebuilt, tuned up etc.Anyone who can give advisev please do e-mail me.

Do you pump the gas a couple times before you hit the key? It probably won't start if you just jump in the car after it's been sitting all night and try start it.
