reattaching rear view mirror

The rear view mirror in my '95 Lumina just fell off the windshield the other day. So, I got a kit to reattach it. But, I can't find a screw or anything to release the baseplate from the arm that holds the mirror.

Does anyone know how I can remove the baseplate?

This one really made me feel stupid..... lol

Not sure, but some just have a slot that you put a small screwdriver into, and it disengages a clip undeneath, releasing the metal divot from the mirror.

I just got done doing this. There is a metal piece shoved up into the mirror arm where it attaches to the windshield. You need to remove it, (it's not easy) and buy some adhesive. Glue the small metal insert to the windshield then slide the mirror arm back over the metal piece (again, not easy)

no, the metal piece has to be slid out, unfortunately, and if it's anything like mine was, it's in there pretty good. A screwdriver will give you leverage, but there is nothing that "releases" it. it's just a pain in the ass.

I'm really not sure why GM chose not to have a set screw to hold it in like they did on older models.

Any time you eliminate a screw or bolt from any part of the manufacturing process,and replace it with a clip or snap, etc, it saves a little bit of labor and production cost. Make enough of these changes, combined with the enormous number of units built, and it adds up.
