i have a 95 jiimmy with 4X4. i want to drop it 3". can this be done or what is the max and will the tires on it rub. they are BFgoodrich 205/75 R15 thay are on the stock rims. i know most peple don't lower 4X4's but i'm not off roading and i'd like to have better handleing.can it be done? i was told once that the max i could drop it is 3.5" safely but anything lower is pushing it and if i took out the front drive shaft i could drop it lower.

It can be done for 3 inches maximum.

Remove the torsion bar key bolts for the front drop and use 3 inch drop blocks in the back and you will be huggin the ground.

Be ready to do an alignment after 300 miles after the suspension has adjusted and settled.

Here is what mine would look with a 3 inch drop:

how hard is it to remove the keys? step by step? or should i just use the clamps to lower it. how much faster will the front end wear out?

If you look bar along the torsion bars attached to the front suspension, follow them back till you get to a crossmember.

In that cross member will be two bolts sticking down, one for each side.

Backing those bolts all the way out will drop your front end 2-3 inches.

If you want more of a drop, you will have to purchase some some belltech drop keys that allow for even more dropping.

Just be mindful that it is not just a drop and everything is cool.

You will have to get an alignment done after the front settles a bit and this process may accelerate the front ball joint wear.

Don't you currently have other problems with your truck?

I would fix them before you move on to anything else.

if i pull the bolts out and it lowers it can i put them back in to raise it back up? have you ever heard of using speacal clamps to clamp the spring to lower it? my shocks are also starting to get soft. if i replaced them would the handling be better or just the ride? other then that the truck is fine. would the tires rub or should they be fine?

We don't have front springs, we have torsion bar front suspension.

Yes, you can raise it back up if you want by reinserting the bolts and tightening them up to where they were before.

You will have to lift the front tires off of the ground to do it though.

will getting new shocks affect the handleing or just the ride?

Both, they are directly related.

so by replacing the schicks i'd be able to take corners faster or would it be about the same?

Wake up, you are driving a heavy SUV.

Not meant to be taking ANY corner fast.

Why? Is your beard getting in the way? :lol2:

how much of a lift would you get for turning the torsion bars the other way around to lift it?

BlazerLT

Not much, plus you don't really want to do that seeing it will really put a lot of stress on the balljoints.

blazerlt,
Have you left your 4x4 lowered? Did you lower it just to see what it would look like?

Cubanlorenzo, I've heard you can crank the tbars enought to fit zr2 wheel in there if you want. This isn't too good for your balljoints, but you can get the moog ones -they last a lot longer. Remember you also have to shackle or block the rear too.

i just had all 4 of my ball joints replaced. they were the stock balljoints with 185000 miles on them. just had them replaced 2500 miles ago. not looking to buy new ones. id rather leave my blazer at stock height then shorten the life of them by lowering my blazer. thanks anyway

You can remove the bolts totally for a maximum drop.

The more you turn the bolts out, the more the front end will drop.

if i were to buy the blocks for the rear and turn down the torsion bars, would i get any worse/better or a ride? i like the look of it lowered a bit

The ride with soften up a bit. Nothing big though.

think it is worth doing?

BlazerLT

Sure, if you want a drop for cheap.

I'm going to be redoing mine soon.

Just be mindful that you will have to go in for an alignment soon afterwards.

i need an alignment anyways, little off. i think i might go with the drop then. you said 3" total dropped? should i go the full 3" or maybe 2"?

BlazerLT

That depends on how much you rear end is sagging.

i dont think it is sagging at all. thinking more about it. i dont think that i will do it. i have a hitch under my bumber and with lowering it 3 inches will make it even lower to the floor. that, and not too sure i want a lowered truck. i live in northern jersey and the damn mountains and snow around here suck. thanks though

Sure, it is your decision.
