KB: Gore sucks too. I personally think he's the devil. All the candidates sucked. Definitely a case of voting for the lesser of two evils.

I keep hearing this, "After all thats happened after Sept. 11th and what he's done" Ok, yes it was and still is a trying time for our country, but it is also a blessing for ANY man in the presedency. Al Bundy could be president and after Sept. 11th come out and say "This is unforgivable what these... terrorists have done to our country and the sword of justice will seek them out and destroy them! We must go on with our everyday lives to show terror that it has not won. WIth these three monkeys I will go home and eat jungle fruits! Oh yea, go america!" And after the first two lines everyone in the country would be cheering and up in arms. Look at Rudy G, and Bush. Lets see, both surrounded in drug contriversy now they are national heros! Now Rudy did a good job, I have nothing bad to say about him, this was his worst nightmare.
It remains to see if Bush will make too many bad desisions in the wake of this, and one of the tests is comming up. Anyone watching CNBC will have seen the document about our new atomic position. It outlines how nuclear weapons could be used on Russia, Iran, Libia, China and three other countrys. It also calls for the development of new kinds of nukes, such as bunker busters, and mini nukes. I think this is a VERY VERY VERY BAD IDEA! If we bring nuclear combat into war on an everyday basis we are opening the door to a large scale nuclier war. Think of this, how many movies have you seen that the reason for them being set in a post-apocalyptic world is that We launched, they launched, everyone died? Now this may be a bad example now that I think about it, but you get the gist of what I'm saying.

Bush is a goof ball. He spent all of his life up to age thirty drinking and partying. then decided one day to go into politics. great idea huh? Gore is smart but has no personality, another wonderful candidate for the presidency. Personally I think that both weren't great candidates.
Oh and as for bush doing a great job in the last six months... If he didn't I would be really surprised. With the entire country going patriotic fanatically it would be hard not to have the countries support. And with the army of advisers that he has he better do well. (could anyone tell I am not a real fan of bush's government?)

Well, I may not like the guy, and I may have some personal differences with him, but when look at it objectively I think the job he has done is so so, I will admit that being president of the United States is a HARD FRIGGIN JOB!!! There is so much to attend to, people constantly pushing paper in your face saying Mr. President, Mr. President! I probly couldn't do it :D I'd crack up under the preassure :silly: Not to say that good ol' Recount Al would be doing a better job, god, there has to be someone out there worthy be being president!?

I support gang$tarr, we should have already learned that the media digs for whatever tiny bit of dirt it can find, explodes it into something it's not, and then publicizing it like it is the gospel. But that's o.k. It's the media's job to do that, and it's the President's job to protect America. So far, I think Bush has done what is necessary to do his job.

What has George Bush done for the world????

First he imposes 30% Import Tarrif on steel to save an already dead American industry- thus pissing off the EU and Japan who are going to take him to the WTO which is headed by the legendary Kiwi Mike Moore who I doubt will approve of the Tarrifs. But then the tosser goes and proclaims the US as the Kings OF FREE TRADE!!!!!!!!!!

Then he goes and starts talking shit about Iran-a country who has given it their all to combat terrorists- being evil (And how can Iran and Iraq be in the same axis if they are enemies) and loses international support on his terrorism war by saying he is going to extend to Iraq- not a good move.

Clinton has done FAR more for the US than Bush- such as setting up a great basis for free trade-which Bush wrecked and even making temporary peace in Israel which lasted more than a week.

Yet I still think Bush is a legend compared to Regan (sp) that fool should have been crucified

What?!? I think Reagan was one of the best presidents the U.S. has had
he pretty much led to the collapse of the USSR

i'm no political expert, just my opinion... so don't flame

i think he was underestimated, and he did what he wanted to do, not what bureaucrats wanted him to do.
He was strong with his beliefs, and didn't care what the political outcome would (like with the controversial abortion issue)

he gave the military it's first success since vietnam, and also brought back some american pride and patriotism.

and he's been subject to more character attacks than any other president...
alot of people don't like him but, he's done great things with the country.. getting the economy back, and he stood on his values

didn't he say
“It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you don’t care who gets the credit.”

that's kinda true about him

not a flame, but how old were you when Reagan was Prez...?

the guy seemed to live with his foot in his mouth.....

here's just a few....

"I have orders to be awakened at any time in the case of a national emergency, even if I'm in a cabinet meeting."
Ronald Reagan.

"Politics is supposed be the second oldest profession. I have come to realise that it bears a very close resemblance to the first."
Ronald Reagan.

"You can tell alot about a fellow's character by his way of eating jellybeans."
Ronald Reagan.

"I never drink coffee at lunch. I find it keeps me awake for the afternoon."
Ronald Reagan.

Then there was the time that he walked up to a microphone, assumed it was switched off........and said to the world's press

"My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever [laughter]. We begin bombing in five minutes [laughter]."

......fortunately this man, although President, was not actually in charge of anything.....like most American Presidents of the late 20th century,he was just a popular figurehead for the party, while the real decisions were made by his 'advisors'.

And as for being responsible for the collapse of the Soviet union....I seem to remember that the c.c.c.p. failed due to a lack of money and food.Reagan just happened to be the face in the White House AT THE TIME.

Oh no! Not the dreaded New Zealanders! Oh god, how did we ever survive to the 21 century with them despising our president.

I dont know if you realize it or not, but most Americans laugh our ass off at the amount of time and energy looser little nations spend on pointing fingers and acting like a jelous old maid.

Ron was a great president. Did he makes mistakes, sure, everyone does. George Bush is doing alright. I don’t agree with some of the decisions he's made, but overall, I am glad I voted for him.

If Gore had become president then not only would the US be better off financially but I doubt September 11 would have even occured!!!!! But now we will never know...:(

You should read all the papers here. Over a two-hundred million americans are rubbing their hands together in anticipation of making life miserable for New Zealanders. Its downright DIABOLICAL!

How is the US pushing NZ around? Jesus Christ you guys have a Nepolean complex down there in the worst way.

If you truely believe that an office holder makes a difference in what happened on 9/11, then you are either delusional or just plain stupid. Clinton not trigger happy huh. Ask the asprin factory workers in the Sudan if thats true. Oh wait, you'll have to be dead to do that.

You're "mum" is clearly the political and cultural leader of your mighty and dominate nation. We should all bow to her wisdom. But thats ok. My mom doesn't know where NZ is and asked why she should care. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I couldn't give her a good reason.

Gonthrax

Disclamer: Not a flame, not even hot in any way shape or form.

I think that the attitude of "were is NZ, and why should I care" is indicitive of the entire US's subconsious attitude and is the reason that many peoples have a bad image of the US. The September 11th Terrorists to name one (on top of the fact that we launched cruise missles on them :p)
When the United States was a growing country our founding fathers adopted a stance of isolationism because we felt as though we had enough domestic problems to deal with so why go putting our ladles in every one else's soup. That attitude worked then and continued to work for many years, however it has become outdated. Our political leaders have begun stressing forign policy, the US has started sending it's troops abrod to straighten out conflicts that have little or no effect on us, and yet a large portion of the population still mantains the attitude of isolationism. I cannot count the number of times during the Gulf War I heard "Why are we even over there helping them damn Arabs" Now I was to young to understand it fully then, but I understand now the reason. During the troubles in Croatia (sp?) I heard the same thing (substitude ethnicity) Now I can only assume that because such a large percentage of the population is of this viewpoint, that an proportionaly large percentage of the government is of this same viewpoint and only advocate forign policy because of whatever reason (I don't know why you would think one thing and do another, but hey, it is politics)

Any how, I know I had a point when I started all of this but I've somewhat lost it now, I think what I'm getting at is that although we would like it to seem as though we are an open country with new world views, we are still the same isolationistic country we were a few hundred years ago.

This whole thread has taken a sinister turn. While there are undoubtedly people out there with a general hatred for all things American,I am not one of them.I get immensely frustrated by The relatively few Americans, who, when presented with criticism of any kind, tend to reply"Why do you hate America, you don't live here,so leave our politics/cars/music alone."

There is no point to sweeping generalisations. The fact that I neither like nor trust Bush's policies does not automatically make me anti-american.Patriotism is fine but blind patriotism is ignorance by another name.

Since this has turned into a serious political debate...I don't like right wing control and domination based politics in any country. The idea that a country should be run by a small group of millionares who take their instructions from the big business sector appals me.Big business has a lamentable record when it comes to looking after its workers, its customers, and the greater environment. Most of the laws that prevent big business from wrecking humanity have been pushed through at the behest of the idealists....we seem to be stuck when it comes to politcs between those who want it all for the rich and those who think the poor deserve to be better off for no reason other than the fact that they are poor.Somewhere in betwwen is a pragmatic and sustainable solution, but until the extremists stop trying to grab control, the middle ground will remain uncultivated.

Exactialy, at the risk of sounding a punk singer talking about bit business. Because of the fact that our country's government and echonomy works this way, we have things like the Enron/Global Crossings fiasco which is just foolishness. Especialy the Global Crossings half as they didn't even post a profit at the same time they were contributing $250,000 to both party conventions.
