new motor change wiring problems

just put a new jdm in my 93 geo metro everything seems to be set . we had to switch the distributor setup but now i hook up the battery and my oil light is on on the dash b4 i even turn the key. everything seems to work headlights blinkers heater fan but when i try to start i get nothing no clickor anything . something is draining on the battery too because it went dead when i left it sit out for a few days. i mean real dead not just low. how many wires are there to the starter all i see is the small one that slides on the connector is ther e more . how about alternator i see the big round plug and the black wire what else is there. grrr anyhelp will be appreciated. i might take the starter out and check it this week but that dont explain the draw on the battery :confused:

just 2 wires on the starter, the small one that slides on and the big one that goes to the battery. on the alternator just have the plug and the bigger wire held on with a 10mm nut. when you took the grond wire off did you make sure you hooked the ground wire up that bolts to body right behind the washer bottle. also make sure you have the ground bolted to the intake below the throttle body, its 2 or 3 smaller wires all crimped together. if you got that swiched with the one that bolts to alternator that could cause problem, the big wire on alt should just be one big wire not several small ones

Your dash oil light is operated by the oil pressure sensor mounted into the block of your engine by the oil filter. That light is supposed to be on if the engine is not turning over.

The way your batttery is going dead on you and the fact that your engine will not crank would lead me to take a close look at your starter and whether your battery is draining via the starter. One thing to try, with a charged battery, jump the starter solenoid post to the starter battery cable and see if the starter cranks.

i think i might pull the starter and check the wiresand etc is the oil light suppose to be on with the key in the off position too

No, your battery light should not be on when the key switch is in the off position. This sounds like a grounding problem like Crvett mentioned earlier or an electrical problem unrelated to the engine wiring...
