Swapped Civic Kill and Stupid Mistake

I'm just driving around taking a friend back to his car when I see a riced out civic up ahead. I'm not sure what year it was exactly, but it was around the 95 year or so. He's got a body kit that isn't painted and an exhaust. That's all I was sure about. I've seen him around before at the local meets and I know he has a swapped motor. I don't have a clue if its a B18 or B16 or whatever because I don't know shit about Honda motors.
But anyway, I creep up next to him and it's damn obvious what's gonna happen next. He floors it to get around some people ahead of him. He isn't that slow IMO, but the fart can sound is still there. Anyway, I finally catch up to him on the highway (I didn't feel like swerving around 2 cars just to prove a point) and we're both going about 70. The next exit (to another major highway) is my exit so I don't even try anything. Sure enough, he takes the same exit as me and creeps up next to me. I shift the 3rd, I'm sure he did the same, and we're off.
He takes a slight jump ahead of me, maybe about 1/4 of a car, but then I start reeling him in. I shift to 4th at a little below 100 and slowly walk him. He still kept up nicely, more than I thought. I only won by about 1 1/2 car lengths.
We slow back down to 70 and do the same. Only this time, I do something incredibly stupid. Aroung 90 I clutch to shift into 4th, however for some dumbass reason I put it in second and since this was all in less than a second i popped the clutch out. Needless to say my car SCREAMED. It bounces crazy off the rev limiter and my car jerks something awful. I pressed the clutch back in as soon as I could and braked to 60 and put the car in 5th. The car made an AWFUL grinding noise for about 6 seconds (sounds just like bottoming out) and then it stopped, then it did it again for a few seconds and stopped again.
I pulled over and let the car cool down for about 15-20 minutes. The car seems fine except that the clutch is REALLY soft. It still engages the same, and doesnt feel like it's slipping, but something has to be fucked. :cwm27: The car stunk like clutch for a bit, but that's about it. I'm not sure of the extent of the damage, but the car seems fine for now. I already have some major boost leak issues that will be taken car of this week, so hopefully no major damage was caused.
I'm not sure about the clutch, the gears are actually easier to glide through now, and it feels soft, but still engages perfect? :screwy:
Any ideas?
And I know how stupid of a mistake it was to shift to 2nd instead of 4th, so don't bother telling me. I have no idea why I did that, I've been driving standard all my life. I know it's a straight line from 3rd to 4th, I have no idea why I did it. I guess I brainfarted, at the wrong time.

that sucks....at least you know you did no damage to the engine, thanks to the rev limiter...not so sure about the transmission though :(

i'd keep a close eye on your tranny... and be glad you didn't screw up the engine... i've done that before too... so there's no big in that man... just don't make it a habit.. (even though it's just straight down, stuff happens) the clutch is fine though right? sounds kinda wierd... let the car sit for a few hours and find out if the clutch isn't torn up... it could just be messing with you.

just a good excuse to get a 2100...hehe. And I would replace your tranny fluid with redline synthetic or something similar if you havent already. After launching like 4 times and having runs with my friends RX8(which i beat yay, but i handle like a boat compared to him), my clutch felt soft too, but it went away pretty quickly as it cooled down. Looks like the stock clutch had a little too much stress put on it eh...

Yeah I'll get it looked at soon. I really hope no damage was done, because this is my daily and right now I'm broke.
I gotta make a 3 hour trip back to college soon too, it needs to be in good running order. The tranny seems fine though, so far all good
*prays its ok*

as long as u pushed the clutch back in as soon as u realized what you did...i dont think you effd anything up too badly...but i dunno, maybe the grinding was the synchro's bein shot then and there?? i have no idea? sorry if im wrong...but either way...downshiftin to 2nd at 90 isn't good at all...ur lucky...i've heard of people doin that and literally blowin apart their engines...

Well the car runs fine now.
Thank God nothing happened, but I'm still takin it slow for a bit.

hey well good story, sorry about the issues, hope nothings broke. Think of it this way, at least you won. You would have felt twice as stupid if that frist run was a loss.

Ouch!, Your lucky the transmission took the abuse, most would just let the motor rip it's self apart. I got a civic with b16 swapped in also, i was kinda wondering what i'd do to an almost stock dsm, now i knwo thanx

I did the same thing in my celica... it's notorious for this because of the shift gates being so close together on the 6 speed. I went from 5th to 2nd when trying to go to 4th... was going about 65. Car was still driveable because I caught myself right when I let off the clutch and pressed it back down. Car idled really bad after that. Got it checked out.. I had bent valves from over-rev.

Good to know I'm not the only one who's misshifted like that.
Damn, how short is the gearing on your GTS?
65 in 2nd is not even redline in my GST, but I still don't let it rev that high

where's redline on a GT-S
redline starts at 7800, rev limiter is at 8400. It's going to seem a little shorter than most other cars because of the 6 speed tranny.

nice redline, does it hold power all the way up there?
O and are the GT-S's faster than the GT's? Cause I wasted a GT a/t that was all riced out, wasn't even close.
But you're running a 14.7 so either the GT-S's are much faster, or have you modded it?
