why wet sand?

im sanding down my body that is painted to get it ready for the second coat. would wet sanding do anything? what does it do as opposed to dry sanding?

wet sanding keeps hte paper from clogging and keeps a more consistent grit on the paper.

In another word, wetsanding avoids f***ups more.

just wet sanded the body, seems to be a smoother finish than dry sanding. thanks for the advice!

Dry sanding only causes plenty of dust which is very hard to get off the model before painting.
Wet sand the model and when you have finished give it a good wash/brush under hot water and leave to dry

also Dry sending is warmer and cause some stange thing on the paint, plastic and resin. Water keep it cold.

Wetsand with room temp water (70-80 degrees F)and put a drop of dishwashing liquid in the water to help lubricate the surface and break the water's surface tension.

I use a rectangluar Tupperware (plastic) container as oppsed to sanding over the sink.

I too use a plastic contanier. I wet sanded some primer with 1500 grit and it was really smooth. Problem was I went through the primer. I had to recoat the affected areas.

Still live and learn. I will be more careful with wet sanding. It's fine with no paint, but if smoothing primer etc it's a lot tricker..!!

I don't know about you but i use just water, when i used the dishwashing liquid it left a residue on the body and the paint bubbled and peeled. and i washed the body like 10 times in a row to make sure that wouldnt happen.

Wet sanding is what saves me! Thats the process that i take most of my time doing. Hopefully Airbrushing the paint will lessen the wet sanding. Just be careful wetsanding, just telling you since last time i was watching TV while wetsanding and turned my head for 3 seconds to see the TV and then look back and i ran through the paint :loser:

Happened to me to many times.. :disappoin Im heavy handed too.

i did an excellent wet sanding jon in my opinion, only to ruin it with the final coat of that testors crap. i got the large areas fine, but i got a few bubbles here and there, and some broad orange peel on one side of the car. next paintjob i am definitly using an airbrush.
