Very few modifications, it's all paint. I'm going to to my best to make this as shiny and perfect paint as possible. The paint is Cobra Colors Copperhead Orange Pearl (that's why I've been asking all about those paints). I'm going to decant some Tamiya black and clear for the next two layers. I was warned against putting CC clear over Tamiya spray, and was going to do it anyway. My plan changed after terrible crazing of the CC paint over Tamiya primer. So let that be a lesson to me and you guys.
And kudos to Cobra Colors. Great paint, they will have my business for a long time. Anyone with an airbrush needs to try them out, I'd say.
No they don't pay me.

Looking good so far. Thanks for your kind remarks about the paint!
Is the crazing problem happening with Tamiya's Fine Surface Primer? I haven't tried it yet but I know someone in California who swears by it for use under automotive paint. I wonder what happened there.

I have two theories - either I sprayed too soon after priming, and it was still wet, or I sprayed too thick a coat of paint. Either way, I used Rustoleum primer and did it on the same timetable and with the same amount of paint, so I'm not sure what the deal was. The crazing was pretty heavy duty, though, and it even affected the underlying plastic.

I want to match the prototype pretty closely because I think it's awesome, so I've been hunting stretchwall tires and now waiting for the Aoshima release. The tires on there are just filling int until then.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone, this is just a straightforward build so I can practice painting. My interior will be all airbrush, too, so I can try to increase my skill set. I need something like this with specific goas, so I can force myself to be a better modeler.

Sweet car! Love the Fit. The color is awesome also! Cobra Colors has some really sweet colors! I have been looking for some Honda Imola Orange Mica for a while and this color is real close! Have you ever used Gunze Sangyo retarder? I'm waiting on an order of those to airbrush several cars i have and been wondering how big is the difference between just airbrushing the paint and using retarder mixed in it. Well good luck building it! I cant wait to see it completed! What are your plans for the Interior?

Retarder slows the drying process in order to allow more time for the paint to smooth out.:)

CC is pre thinned (maybe reduced) automotive lacquer. Sprays nicely and has an outstanding finish. It's all I use on my cars.

Looking good Will! :)
The color combo will look sweet. That orange pearl should look amazing after some clear and polishing.
CobraColors products are awesome! :bigthumb: I've had nothing but success using them. If you follow the directions on the site you are almost guaranteed one heck of a good paintjob.
Just a little tip: After taping your separation line and before spraying the black, airbrush the seam lightly with some clear. It will make for a clean separation line when removing the tape with no bleeding.

Black went on today. I would like to thank the entire AF community very much, I would not have done this successfully without this place. The hood is kind of orange peely, but I can knock it down before clear. No overspray! I am so very happy. Thanks everyone for all the tips - esp. CADguy for telling me to spray some clear before the black, I think that was a total clutch move! Thanks everyone!

Tamiya clear shot out of the can. Worked perfectly over the Cobra Colors orange, but it reacted with the Tamiya black on the roof. I think it was a combination of too little black and too much clear. Hopefully after I polish it out, it won't be noticeable.
Thanks.

I'm sure the clear over the black will polish out fine.
It looks great as is, but have you considered the possibility of a hairline stripe between the two colors? I keep picturing something like a thin light bronze, bright orange, or even a lime green stripe.

The original car has no such stripe. I think a stripe like that is probably an American thing, and this is a VIP straight out of Japan - I have a RHD dash and will use a Japanese plate. On my Escalade, there will be a stripe between the two colors. If I wasn't building a model of a car I've seen pictures of, I would probably do it. Thanks, though.
