2002 Suburban 2500 - Oil level low too often

Hello all:

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 with the Vortec 8100 engine. There are 55,000 miles on it, and for a fair amount of the time I have owned it I get a Check Oil Level light on. It has happened maybe 5 times, with no real pattern. I have a concrete driveway with no evidence of leaks. It is not driven hard, and rarely does any hauling, etc.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? The dealer and an independent mechanic can't find any problems, other than a need to add oil. The truck gets regular oil changes and all of the recommedned manufacturer service has been done.

Thanks

tell the dealer there is a TSB out that addresses the problem with a fixed orifice PCV valve.

This should eliminate the problem.

That bulletin does not include the 8100 engine.

There is a GM TSB for oil consumption on the 8.1 engines..oil is being pulled past the intake gasket...there is a new bolt and torque spec for this...I don't have the TSB #

As of yesterday there is an updated TSB for oil consumption on the 8.1 engines..the update is for a new intake gasket.
