Hey guys, I just bought a 96 GP SE 3.1 V6, she has about 126,000 and after abou two weeks of having it it startin shifting into 2nd gear very hard, it doesnt do it when downshifting into first but from 1st to second it hits hard, i read in another thread someone talkin abou a vacuum line from intake to trans or somethin i was wonderin if maybe that would possibly apply to my 96 as well if anyone has any idea or would like additional info please feel free to respond i would greatly appreciate it, Thanx in advance.

Try the vacuum modulator located on the top of the transmission. This costs only a few dollars and takes only a short time to replace. This could be the reason the transmission is not shifting properly into second. Also you should check the vacuum line as it may have gone bad when you replace the modulator. If you purchase a chiltons or haynes manual the manual will show you how to do the job.

Both the engines and trannies are good for several hundred thousand miles if you take care of them. The engine will probably last a lot longer than the transmission especially if you like to start at zero and go to WOT. The tranny in my GTP went at 136K miles but it had been run hard. The engine still runs great and does not burn any oil. Currently using Mobil One.
