speedometer\odometer

I have this small problem. I have an 87 T/A with a 305 putting out 350 hp. Rebuilt 700r4 tranny. When we rebuilt the tranny and engine, we also took out the computer. Now that its out of the way, I have no odometer. I do have speedometer but no odometer. The stock setup that I have has no speedometer cable just wired. How can I get the odometer back working, and what did I do to kill it?

I think there is a sensor in the tranny that tells the computer how many miles are being put on the car. When you dumped the computer you dumped the odometer. As to what fixes this, other than putting the computer back in, Im not sure what to do to fix it. You could also put aftermarket gauges in and perhaps run a speedo/odometer cable from the tranny to the new gauge.

You are correct! There is a sensor where the speedometer cable would usually connect. And that sensor has two wires. Both goint up to the gauge cluster in the dash. You would think that the speedometer and odometer both would work in tandem with each other. Same imput signal and all.
