transmission slams into gear

ok i have an 2002 jetta vr6 triptronic and it shifts bad, seems to do it allot more when its cold when i accelerate normally i can hear the transmission struggeling to shift then it finally shifts but it jerks and slams into gear. The car has only 28k and is under warrenty but the dealer has looked and the car many times and still hasnt fixed the problem they reset the basic setting to road test and replaced the valve body but it has helped the slightest. Next week a rep from vw corporate is coming to look at the car and if anyone has had this problem or could offer insight on whats wrong it would be appreciated

Mine was doing the same thing I had the trasmission serviced and they said I had a loose filter.. Once they fixed that my car is running great

My girlfriend just recently purchased a used 04 Jetta 2.0 automatic and it seems to be doing the same thing when it goes into 3rd gear. It almost feels like i left the transmission on the road. It does it maybe every third or fourth take off. We are going to take it to the VW dealership very soon. If you guys hear of anything in regards to this matter, drop me a line. Thanks.

There is an update for the vr6 auto trans control module.
It pertains to harsh shifting 2-3 and 3-2.

Every dealer should have the update disk.

OK, just talked to the VW dealer and told them what I heard on here about the update and they told me they never heard of the update nor have they heard of the control module being messed up. How should I approach this next Friday when I take the car to the dealership?

Has anyone asked their dealer about this and if so, was the dealer aware? I am having the same exact problem and they repaired a leaking transmission fluid gasket and it appeared to solve the problem for a few days, however, the weather was warm. Now it is cold again and it is acting up. I plan to call tomorrow but would like to know if anyone has and any luck with this? My dealer is in Chattanooga, TN.

OK guys. Here is the update. We dropped the car off at the VW dealership here in Goldsboro, NC. We left the car with them for a few days because this persistent problem only seems to be occurring in the cold as everyone has also experienced. Well, while it was with the dealership, it only did it once as compared with us when it does it 3 or 4 times per warm up session. To make this long story short, they gave us the car back and said that it was normal for this hard upshift and eluded to my fiance's driving habits causing the problem. They did NOTHING!! What should I do now? Should I take it there myself and raise hell or try taking it to another dealership? Any advice would be wonderful.

VW has a transmission check sheet the involves checking main line pressure, valve pressures, and solenoid shift points. This can help determine wether the valve body is faulty or transmission has internal problems. If the update has already been done they could try replacing the TCM with a new one.

Sounds like they are trying to wait till its out of warranty so they can get a nice $3500 customer pay bill!

The Volkswagen dealer in Chattanooga has given me a rental car(at their expense) or a dealer car each time I have been in. They finally concluded they cannot repair the problem and they are installing a new transmission as we speak while I drive a 2005 Jetta. They have been absolutely wonderful.
