2003 Speedo problem

I have a 2003 suburban, 55,000 miles. About 4-5 times now the speedometer will jump up about 60 miles per hour so that when driving the freeway it may read 60 mph at standstill and pegs out at 120 at cruising speed. I can reset it to zero by starting the vehicle then immediately shutting it off then repeating this process about 20 times. Each start ratchets the speedometer down a few mph on the guage until finally it stops at zero. Then everything is OK for a while and then one day up it goes again and stays there until I do the restart operation again.
Once, and only once, recently all my guages went all the way to the left side of the guages (like the key was out of the ignition), vehicle ran OK and I got the guages to come back to life by pulling the appropriate fuse.
Any ideas on the speedometer issue.........of course the dealer wants it for a few hours to test things out but that can get unnecesssarily expensive.
Thank you, Ron

I have the same problem with the speedomter. The only way I can tell my speed is to either time the mile markers or watch the tach. Some days it works fine then all of a sudden it starts acting up. Also, every once in a while my fuel gauge will go to empty and the trip computer will say low fuel. Then the gauge comes back to life and goes to the correct reading. PLEASE, ANYONE THAT KNOWS OF A SOLUTION, SHARE IT WITH US!!!

Welcome to your first post on AF.
Well unless you have the stuff to test it out yourself let the dealer or a good repair shop have at it.
But they can not do it in 5 minutes. Give them some time if you want it done right.
Good work is just like good wine it takes time. :grinyes:
Or you can start throwing parts at it like a 1000 $ worth of stuff and hope you get lucky.

You can buy a whole new cluster for $250-350 just about anywhere on the internet. Get the one with the trans temp gauge if you don't have it already, it'll work with the automatic trans vehicles. It won't cost $1000 and literally takes five or ten minutes to swap out.
