Stuff thats emo to me is stuff like, TBS, senses fail, the used, rufio, the new hopesfall CD. Im sure some one will tell me that nothing i just named is emo.

to me emo is stuff like Bright Eyes, Dashboard, Straylight Run etc.
slow, quiet, whiny shit. not really my bag.
TBS, Senses Fail, The Used and Hopesfall are all loud and aggresive. therefore i would group them more towards screamo or hardcore instead.
if you like the whiny shit then i can't really help you (although i did just name 2 others you could try).
Straylight Run is the new project from John Nolan, who was the back-up singer and lead-guitarist on Taking Back Sunday's first (and way better) album. he jumped ship and created Straylight Run. i don't like them at all, and i personally think John's talents are being put to waste in such a wussy band, but if you like that kind of stuff then check them out.
if you like the louder stuff like me, then look into:
Boys Night Out
Emery
Name Taken
Brazil
Desaparacidos
Sparta
A Static Lullaby
My Chemical Romance
Finch
Underoath
Fear Before The March Of Flames
Thursday
that's a start.

Brian, Underouth has gone to hell... I remember going to one of their shows a long time ago in Tremont and seeing the entire place losing it when they played 'The Last'
... The last show I ever saw them play (and it will be... The last show I ever see them play) they told us to go down the street to 'Pantera' because we were all chanting 'PLAY THE LAST, PLAY THE LAST!'
... So we did... They've taken a turn for the worst, and Its a trend that has started.
But anyways, as for Emo... Meh... It hurts my ears :D

Wes,
as much as i respect your musical tastes, you must acknowledge the fact that my musical tastes are my own and if i choose to like a band then nothing you can say will change that.
you seem to me to be too caught up worrying about trends and shit and not caring enough about the music. trying to sway my opinion when i'm very obviousley a fan (i've only got their album cover in my signature) is really pointless in my opinion. Underoath's new album is amazing, they were amazing live when i saw them open for Coheed and Cambria. i have no reason not to like them, so i will like them thank you very much. :)

"The Last" must be a really, really sad song then. Not your typical emo sad, but, tear jerking "Schindlers List" sad.

if you're going to make stupid remarks like these, ESPECIALLY around someone who has their fucking symbol tattood into his arm (that would be me) as a sign of how much he likes the band, then please stay the fuck out of this forum or i will give you a free vacation from AF for a week or two.
the thread at the top of the forum indicates that, if you go into a thread and something is being discussed, and you don't like that something (whether it be a band or a genre), then stay the fuck out of the thread. the people who started and are participating in the thread don't care, i repeat DON'T CARE that you don't like them. they do, and they're looking to discuss their like of that band/genre with other people who feel the same way.
it also says that if you can't make a CONSTRUCTIVE argument (your post had the constructivity of a 4-year old), then don't make one at all.
do i make myself clear?

No problem buddy :D
Wasnt try to sway your opinion or anything, its not like I was expecting you to say 'O for real? Ewww, yea screw Underouth man!'... I just wanted to 'Throw my ball into your court, and let you see how it bounces' type deal.
I dont chose my music on trends, or whats cool... But I dont like it when 'the cool thing' is to go to Straight-Edge shows, acting S.X.E, looking like a Straight-Edger... And toking in between bands outside.
I almost got in a fight with three or four guys over this, I walked outside to get some air... And smelt some herb burning... Didnt think anything of it, because most of my friends are drug users... Until I saw them wearing S.X.E gear. I lost it... Being Straight-Edge is where my Allegiance is at, and when some mainstream douche bags with no opinions to call their own, come along and spit on my ideals by contridicting eveything we Straight-Edges stand for... Its sickening.
Im not sure how it is anywheres else... But around here, the mainstream dictates how you should dress, how you should act, what you should do, what type of car you should drive, how you should talk, how you should walk, and how all of the sudden, killing and raping is cool 'dawg.
So I figured this out real young, and strayed away from it... And as we all know how harsh middle school, and elementary school politics are amongst peers, I was shunned by all of my life long friends, just because I wouldnt dress like them, and say the up-to-date lingo... I had a pretty shitty childhood because of my choice to stray.
Its now something people respect... When people are selling cups at a party, and you say 'Straight-Edge man... No drugs, drinking, or promiscuous fucking' you get a look of respect from that act... And all of my friends and I have an understanding about this.
But the bottom line for me is, Be what you are, and stay forever true to that... And when someone tries to mimic your life-style (in appearence only) because for a few months, its the cool thing... You cant tell me that wouldnt destroy what you stand for.
Thats all I ask guys... If you love something, love it for the right reason... Not because it was in a movie... Not because MTV released a new fabricated image... But love what you do, and who you are, for the right reasons.
... Once again, sorry for that ramble session, but I needed to say it.

Straight-Edge is not partaking in drug usage, drinking alchoholic beverages, or practicing promiscuous sexual encounters.
S.X.E is a shortened version of Straight-Edge... Straight-X-Edge... Get it?
Something I've been into since I was very young... Never drank, never smoked, never taken advantage of a drunk girl... Im the kind of guy you can trust I guess

The way I see it, emo is an offshoot of punk. Basically its less yelling, more whining. Very slow and usually depressing.
Dashboard Confessional would be the posterband for emo Id say.

Huh... So its the exact opposite of punk. Is all of it depressing? I can't see myself listening to music that gets me down. I listen to music to enhance/improve my mood, not to bring it down. To each their own, though.

No it's not all depressing, the Emo i listen to has more upbeat songs thand depressing. They even did a remake of Maneater by Hall and Oates, sounds better than the original. I saw them live and i have to say that even though they're not maintstream yet, they're my favorite emo band.
