99 suburban stock amp location

I am hoping to install my Kenwwod deck in my 99 Suburban LT which has 8 speakers as far as I know. Hooked it up yesterday and only had sound on passenger side speakers. Stock stereo has same problem. Do I need to bypass/replace factory amp? Where is it located? If I buy a new amp how many channels will I need to use existing speakers? Thanks for your help, Pat.

If you have the factory standard radio, with 8 speakers (tweeter and all range in front door(FRONT), all range in back side doors(REAR), and coaxial in roof in cargo area(REAR)) there is no separate amplifier. It sounds like you lost continuity somewhere in the left side lines. You're gonna have to trace all of them out and also make sure the connections at the speakers are tight. My coaxials in the roof weren't working , and thinking they were blown I went and bought a new set of 4x10's. Turns out the connections were loose. Ripped out the slide connections and hardwired them in to the circuit and soldered.

Good luck.

Thanks for yopur help, I'll start at the drivers door and work back until I find the loose link. If I then install my Kenwood deck will all speakers work? What do the wires in the 3rd factory harness do? Thanks, Pat.

If you check all the wires and fix all the connections that are loose/non conductive, I'd say you have a pretty good chance of the speakers getting power to them. You also need to check the speakers themselves for shorts/opens in the coil. Use an oHm meter and check for continuity and resistance. For a baseline reading use the markings on the back side of the magnet. If it says 10 oHms and the meter reads within +/- 10% you're in the ball park. They should be good.

Does all this apply to a 2000 Chevy Tahoe Limited?
I'm trying to determine if my Tahoe has a factory amp or not.
Thanks a lot.

That's new body style. Start digging under the seats, etc. for anything that looks like an amp. If nothing then trace one set of speaker wires FROM the head unit. It may be that there is NO SEPARATE AMP
