98 silverado power locks

Just wondering If I am able to disable the autolocking feature on my truck, Im a bit fed up. My buddy was going to "warm up" the truck after we were done ice fishing last night and we got to sit on the middle of a lake looking at my locked running truck till 2:30 am. I had to be to work at 6:00 am so It was a long day. not to mention dragging the wife out of bed in the middle of the night to bring me a spare key went over well

Can't help ya with the autolock... but I always keep a set of spare keys in my wallet.

it is possible to pry the top of the door open with your hands. I have had to do this on my 97. Just use something (fishing pole) to stick through the gap and hit the unlock button.

I think there is a way to deprogram things like that. You might want to look in your owners manual. Or ask a dealership?

Is this the factory keyless entry system or an aftermarket alarm????Either way, there is an auto lock feature on most (if not all) alarm systems w/keyless entry and also the factory keyless entry. Unfortunabtly if it's the factory keyless entry, I don't know how to get into the reprogramming mode. However, I am trying to change some settings for my sisters factory keyless entry system so I would like to find out as well so hopefully someone can help us both out. But if I figure it out and you still need to reprogram, I'll definitely let you know. If it's an alarm system that is programmed like that, I can possibly help you out now but need to know want brand and model alarm system

This has to be part of an aftermarket remote start system. Check the drivers side kick panel to see if there is any wiring/relay spliced in. I think the door lock wiring colors are light blue and white behind the driver kick panel

Correct those are the 2 colors for the power locks. If I remember correctly, the white wire is lock and light blue is for unlock. However, I wouldn't say it is has anything to do w/ a remote start system since his buddy went to go warm up the truck. If it had remote start, then why wouldn't have kkreisler "remotely" started the truck with the transmitter that would have been most likely on his key chain which would mean he would have still had his keys and would't have this issue. I might be wrong assuming there is no remote start system, I have no idea. But after rereading this problem I do believe it is an aftermarket system (alarm perhaps)and not factory (keyless entry), which is what I initially asked. I could still be wrong of course. Yet I know that there are some alarm systems w/ keless entry capability that can be programmed to auto lock doors after so many seconds of door being shut, just like factory keyless entry. And this seems to be more the scenario. So, in reality it doesn't matter what color wires in kick panel do what because either way this is a programming issue with whatever type of system it is. The other typical ways to program the auto-lock feature are of course off, when transmission is switched out of park, when vehicle exceeds 5mph, etc. Of course there are auto-unlocking settings as well. I turned all that crap off due to fear of locking my keys in my truck! I guess if you can't figure out how to reprogram this setting, you could resort to looking for those wires, just rember to wire it back to the way it came new/stock. Otherwise you could loose your power locks if you don;t complete the circuit. But if you (kkeisler) told me if you only had factory keyless or an aftermarkt alarm sys. w/ keyless, than I could help yo find the necessary info needed to just repragram.

I have learned that 99 and newer have a programming mode for the autolock which allows you to disable or enable 1 of 2 programs of autolock whick you can enter by doing something with the hi beam switch while turning the ignition switch in a specific sequence. I am just hoping that the 1998 models have a similiar option otherwise I will have to isolate the autolock relay and snip a wire.

Before u snip that wire if u can give me a couple of days to do a little research and talk to a few people, I will most likely have the programming info you would need. I've gotta reprogram my sisters '96 Blazer to give confirmation honk (beep)when doors are locked w/remote. In either case, your vehicle and my sisters should have same keyless entry system, same programming. However, I would definintly try what you learned for the '99, its possible GM didn't swith to newer keyless entry units until 2000. If it does work, do you think you could find out what I need to do to that '96 Blazer to give confirmation honk (beep) when doors lock remotely? Would appreciate it if you did. In meantime I'll work on resources I have and let you know you need to do.

The OEM locks only lock when going above 15mph, not just when after you start it. I know that ALL aftermarket keyless entries will lock the doors about 5-10sec. after you start it though.

I am most certain it is a factory system, unless aftermarket systems come with gm logos on the transmitters. I know some with auto trannys lock as soon as vehicle is put in gear manuals lock at 15 mph but this is the first factory keyless system I have seen that locks as soon as the key is turned on.

My dad has a 98 and the doors only did the auto lock until I disconnected a relay for the lock that was part of the remote start system that was installed by a previous owner. Can't find anything in service manual about enabling auto locking either. You can get horn confirmation by connecting pin 4 to pin 8 at the DLC with the key off and cancel horn confirmation by connecting the 2 pins with the key on, I am not sure if you need to program transmitters again when this is done or not.

I would check behind the driver's kick panel to see if something has been wired in, somebody could have just made their own auto lock with a relay or two

Thanks Jeremy-WI, what exactly is the DLC you are talking about? And also, to get the horn confirmation I connect pins 4 and 8 then what? You say turn on key it cancel the horn but my sister wants it to honk when she locks doors. Thanks for your help

DLC= Diagnostic Link Connector(OBD2 port): This was posted by tireburner in the nonspecific forum:

1)Ground terminal #8 (black/white wire)of Data Link connector (DLC) Receiver willl respond by locking / unlocking all doors within 2 seconds. Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simeltaneously on first transmitter until locks cycle (lock then unlock)

2) Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simeltaneously on second transmitter until the locks cycle

Remove ground from black white wire pin # 8 at DLC


Transmitter function can now be verified..

In a 98 C/K service manual it says that if the key is on when you connect pin 4 to pin 8 that the horn will be cancelled and if you connect the pins with the key off the horn is enabled, its hard to say if it will work or not on a 96 as the RKE module is probably different on a 98 because that was the year GM started using Passlock on the trucks

My truck doesnt lock automatically, I want to make mine lock. I asked a dealership, they couldn't help me, I didnt see anything bout it in the owners manual either.
