I have 1995 Ford Escort GT. One of the brake light bulbs is burned out. I have removed the cover. I can't get the old bulb out. The bottom is rectangular, so it does twist out. I snapped off the old filament and have tried pulling with pliers, but I can't get the old bulb out. This should be simple enough. Anybody have any ideas? Do I have to replace the socket too?

The lamp socket is accessible from inside the rear compartment. Remove any trim panels to gain access to the backside of the light assy. Twist the bulb socket and remove it from the light assy. To remove the bulb, either push in on the bulb and turn ccw and then pull the bulb out of the socket, or pull straight out depending on bulb type.
