03 chev. venture tach wire

ok Im Installing a code alarm ca510. I need to know if the tach wire needs to be hooked up to make this thing operate. Ive tried to program this unit to tachless mode be it keeps defualting to tach mode. When i run diagnostics on it, it flashes 7 times saying it hasnt learned tach signal. If that wire does need hooked up where do i connect it. directions say neg wire up by coil but that is nearly impossible. :screwy: please help

Not impossible, i hooked a tach up on my 00 venture:) from neg side of coil, hard, not impossible:)
