hi I am new here so you guys may talk about this before.I have a 1985 pick up truck the dealer an many places in the internet says that the 85 is solid axle but my is independent suspension. The truck is on the shop for the following new ball joints, steering stabalizer , left outter tie rod, draglink and left cv axle they charge me around 1000 to get that fix should I spend the money and I would like to know about the suspension issue a 85 is solid from the factory or is independent suspension like my or if I get the parts my self what else I need do I will need extra parts like bushings ,washers, bolts you know all the extra hardware to install those parts. thanks

the front suspension on both the 2wd & the 4wd 1985 t6oyota pickups were independant suspension. i know this for the the base models because i have both sitting at home. i have heard that if you have a 4x4 you can convert it to straight axle front

1985 model year Toyota 4x4s were solid axle frontends. Your truck may have been built in '85, but it is probably an '86 model year since that's when IFS debuted. A grand to fix a couple rod ends? I'd sooner eat horse poop than pay that kind of money for such simple repairs. You could get all those parts for under $250, bolt them on, and have an alignment done for $50.

if the 85 model had straight axle front, then mine probably was an 86 model, but it says something like may 85 in the door jamb. i got some parts on it for sale if anyone is interested

wow you are really wrong im sorry. all the 85 4wd pick ups came with a solid front axle. the 2wds came with IFS front. the last half or so of the 85s they made a 22re motor in them as well. its really easy to tell the difference between independent suspension and solid axle. one is a bunch of crap, the other looks like a bar that runs straight across. 86 and up was IFS and those are the years people do a SAS (solid axle swap) on them.
