Yesterday(1-7-05),I jumped in my truck in the mourning.Fired it up and went back in the house to let it warm up.Came back out, jumped in,put it in reverse and NOTHING but a whining noise. :banghead:Went through the rest of the gears and it did want to pull a little with a whining noise. So I jumped in my trusted Geo and away I went to work. When I came home after work I fired the truck up and put it in reverse. It slipped some and grapped enough for me to turn it around. Then I put it in 1,pulled ahead some.Put it back in reverse and backed it in to it's spot(out of the road so it can die  ).I went through the gears again.1st was gone,2nd was gone,3rd was there,D was there, reverse was gone. :screwy: So is it safe to say that this tranny is screwed? Please nobody reply with,Did you check the tranny fluid?I mean hell last year it got a new engine along with alot of other parts. Some day I'm gonna have a brand new 1998 S10 ZR2 :grinyes: .Did I mention I'm getting sick of sinking money into this thing?

How was the fluid?

Dark, up to level, did you check the level while the truck was running?

Sounds like the torque convertor has locked up and won't let go.

Don't suppose it could be the ignition switch? There is a separate circuit for the tranny on these.

Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions:

* The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is ON.
* The transmission is stuck in third gear.
* The instrument cluster is inoperative.

Upon investigation, one or all of the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0740, P0753, P0758, P0785, P1860 may be set.
Cause

The most likely cause of this condition may be a loss of power to the transmission on circuit 1020. This loss of power may be caused by an open in the ignition switch

sounds like my mini van. when it did that i let it sit for a month and then jumped in it and it ran like new. while we are on the topic of gears. why is it extremely hard to get my truck into gear sometimes. yesterday i could not get it into reverse at all. its standard. it wouldnt go. so finally i just yanked as hard as i could and it went in. that made me nervous. is it the slave cylinder or am i way off on this diagnosis?

Fluid was dark and was up to level(over a little in fact) and truck was running in park.I had the filter and fluid changed about 1 1/2 years ago,but it wasn't flushed.I was going to get it flushed next month, cause I need seals in the front diff. also.I thought I was ahead of the game and WHACK :banghead: .How would the torque convertor lock up?

My light isn't on,but I will read the codes just in case.Transmission isn't stuck in 3rd.My instrument cluster works.

Just for shits and giggles I would go and see if you can get and transmission codes.

This sounds like a torque convertor that hasn't let go and is causing the lack of low end power.

Just for fun, reset the computer. If the computer somehow has developed a logic lock, it might be confused.

Opps, well I thought it was TBI. :lol2:What does CSFI stand for? Now that I know what sensor is tripping, I have to figure why that is happening.I had crate engine put in and I can remember the guy who did said that he had a hell of a time getting it in time.I talked to another mech. and he said that if the dis.cap wasn't dropped in right and if it was a tooth off that it would idle but power and gas milelage would be affected. It has real shitty milelage and seems to lag a bit.Have you ever heard of this?Could this affect that sensor? Now this adds to my TO DO list.I priced a reman tranny. How is $1300.00 :disappoin I can't believe it.

You were getting screwed bro.

You can buy a whole remanufacturered engine and part of a tranny with that price.

Don't shoot for a transmission quite yet.

It is computer controlled, make sure the wire harness is attached to the transmision perfectly and it is clean.
