Wipers + Air Fiter

After a recent 2 hour trip in moderate to heavy rain, the wipers wouldn't return to their usual parked, or stowed, position. Checked my Haynes manual and there isn't much info on troubleshooting the wiper system. They still function properly when turned on but just won't stow. Anyone have an idea what the problem might be, and its solution?
I also have come across a company called K & N Engineering that have a replacement air filter for the Taurus and they claim about a 5% improvement in fuel efficiency due to the fact that the airflow is increased by about 50% due to less restrictive air flow through their oiled cotton filter. It is not a throw away filter as it can be recleaned up to 25 times before requiring replacement. Anyone have any comments, pros or cons, about this? The air filter is quite expensive at about $36 on the open market but a 5% savings would save a 15,000 mile/year owner over $50/year with the additional benefit of cleaner air for the engine....
Thanks ..

A lot of british car enthusiasts are using them. Increased air flow equals increased power. Just be careful not to over oil the element. They work great.

they don't really give you any power unless you remove your intake silencer too. But they do save you money in the long run by you not having to get a new filter for as long as you own your car.

I was looking at them too. I just posted a thread about it in the sable forum. I was even thinging about replacing the air intake with a less restrictive model. Supposed to up the HP as well. I'd appreciate more info as well.

This is not a uncommon problem with wiper motors. They have sensors built into them and I had a car do this that was a ford. Just buy a new wiper motor and install and it will be fixed.
Those filters are great however the cleaner cost quite a bit if you are looking at only saving money. I would only get it if you are looking at increasing HP by a little or trying to fit in the crowd. They won't save you money if you use it correctly.
