im new to the whole import "scene" but i want to get started right, right now ive got about $5500 to spend and i want to get a stealth r/t tt or a 3000 vr4, do you all think this is possible if i wait to find a good deal?? also where would you reccomend looking to find the best deals?

also the main reason i want the top model is because of the 4wd, would it be possible (cheaper) to by a base model and make if a 4wd (i know whats invovled, i would like personal experience) because i really dont mind having a NA motor to work on.

IT would be much easier just to get a AWD to begin with. As for having $5500, it should get you into a TT but you wont have anything left over for unexpected happenings.

I dont know man, a SL goes for about $7000.00, I think the base is like $5500.00. for VR-4 Id think more like $9000.00! I'm not sure if it varies from region to region but I bought mine over a year ago and those where the prices then, I dont think its changed much!
As for going from FWD to AWD. I had a friend in my first year of college who had a 2.0 Eclipse like mine. and tried to convert it to a AWD using a donor car. He spent like 2000 bucks and gave up on it cause it was just too much body and frame moddification. the chasis of the 2.0 n/a was not the same as the GSX, the 3000GT chasis is a Z11A and the VR-4 is a Z15. the chasis is different and with it goes alot of cutting and welding. if you really know whats involved then you know it'd be cheaper to get the VR-4.

Actually a vr4 chassis is z16.;) Only z15's were 95-96 Stealth RT/TT, GTO MR's and GTO SR's(NA AWD). 9000 for a VR4 is the price for a fairly good condition second gen. First gens can be had for well under that.

^ your right, I was thinking of the second gen!
I didnt know it was a Z16! I just knew of the Z11A, Z15, Z15AM and the Z15AMK which is the third gen GTO MR but your right I got those chassis codes from a japanese dirrectory so the american version would be different. Cool bro, thanks for the 411.

i really dont care what year it is, i know 93 is better than earlier years, but it doesnt matter much, ill drive a 1991 for all i care.

ohh and arent the stealths cheaper than the 3000gts for some reason?
btw fwd is not an option for me so the sl, regular r/t and base models are out.

thanks for all the help. hopefully ill be a 3000gt/stealth owner soon

one last thing is there a body denomination for these cars (like the camaro/transam is the f-body)

i think base stealths tend to be cheaper than base 3000gts because of their engine.

People just call them the 3S.

I'd say your only hope is a 91-93 Stealth TT with over 100k on it. A VR4 is out of the picture unless it's damaged or too high of miles to be worth buying. Just go on Ebay and look, the Stealth's usually go for about half the price of an equal 3000GT (i don't get why). If you can't buy anything on Ebay, then add about $1500-$2000 to the average selling price on Ebay to estimate what you'd pay in person (the price is lower on Ebay because of shipping costs usually).

I definitely wouldnt say half the cost. It all depends on condition. I have seen a super low mileage first gen RT/TT go for close to 10k. I also saw, almost bought(if I would have had the money), a 92 Sandstone grey VR4 for 10k.

Omg Sandstone grey is the most SEXY Color for these cars ever, too bad its so damn rare and only on first gens. And for the record I had no trouble buying the 95 SL for $5900 during the begining of summer and not too much trouble selling it during hte beging of winter after a small accident for $7300 so there are a wide variety of people willing to buy and sell virtually the same car for a spread of different prices.

yeah but on average it's close to what I said, probably not half the value but somewhere around there...i've seen a Stealth TT with 70k on it go for $3500 in mint condition, but that's not the normal case. But if you have time to wait you can find some amazing deals.

u'll have better luck buying a 3/s for cheaper over the winter, the prices rise on sports cars the closer u get to summer, so im told by a dealership, and i got mine at a private auto-auction 93' 3kgt base w/ 99k miles perfect cond. for like $4k....my uncle has a pass to get in

If I remember correctly, there are a handful of second generation Stealths that were sandstone grey. Not many, but a few.

There were no sandstone grey Stealths. There were however a total of 1935 Silver Pearl Stealths made in 93 and 94 with 1167 in 93 and 768 in 94.
