A freshman as in high school? Bcuse if you are, freshman to freshman I would not recomend moding the car to much at our age. And if you were to still mod your car, I would recomend something like a cold air intake to start.

well freshman in in h.s or college i would not even waste the money to mod your accent. i had a 01 and did alot of research and there just is not alot of companies out there making things, and for the amount of money you would spend doing would be crazy you could spend the same amount as someone who has a honda, mits, mazda, and you would still not be close to there hp. but if you don't care about that i would just get a cai, downpipe and exhaust, and maybe a 25-50 of nitrious and that's it, and a bigger throttle body

what da you mean not be able to have hp or keep up with a honda. A accent can smoke the s$$$ out of a civic stock. and customized they are just a bit better than a stock tib v6.

Believe me, my father used to own a 01 accent manual trany and when he said hold on that he was going to floor it I was like all whatever this stock 4 banger has jack crap in it. But then he did floor it and when he did, it was like aw s$$$ you just like got sucked back into the seat and everything.

try swapping that 1.5 alpha engine to the 2.0 beta engine (elantra 97 or upper). Im in research of that. The beta engine (used in the 1 Gen Tiburon/Coupe) has a lot of mods like a lot of pieces for that engine. However, expect some mistakes and major mods (brakes!, accent sucks during high-speed braking)....
ah, and one special version of the accent with supercharger was made by a dealer in the us, with 115 hp's. Unfortunatly, only 2 were modified...

yap, the accent engine's have a better response at high revs (more than 3,500rpm) Try to feel when the car began to make more sound than movement'... when it's push decrease and sound increase, at that point you should shift.

an accent beating a civic come on get out of here. i had a 2001 accent 5spd and it only had like 100hp. stop living in your fantasy world.unless you plan on droping major money into your accent like a few thousand dollars. save your money and buy a car that has a better starting point then the accent.

and the engine swap is gonna cost you who knows how much all together maybe like 2000 and just to put yourself at 130-140hp. it's not worth it

you all are forgetting a little something called "power to weight ratio"; sure, the accent has 105bhp stock, but it also weighs 2200lbs. That's going to be even or quicker than a 125bhp car that weighs 2800lbs. so an accent that has 125hp and weighs 2200lbs vs. a car that has 125hp and weighs 2800lbs... who's going to win?

yes its true for a teen the accent does suck you into the seat but they have major problwms with the tranny (we have a 2001) we have replaced the tranny and the clutch and the clutch is soon to be gone for the second time! by no means is this car driven hard its never been raced or anything, its barily been over the speed limits!
the accents have under 100hp and there is close to no aftermarket for the accent (there are body kits and such but not much) i am soon to be getti g a car and i have been offered the accent and quickly objected to being given it. i would much rather get a civic adn seriously a accent will not beat a civic! (ok well maybe a accent vs a 75 civic with the crappy 1.6)
if anything if you still want to mod the accent you will want to get a intake and exhaust and ignition, plugs, wires

I would honestly rate the accent that is made for the U.S. @ 80-90 hp Max. At least that is what I have read in the specs @ work. It aint made to go fast. It is made to be affordable transpo.

All cars suck when they break down and they never break down in your driveway. It's always 300 miles into the trip to East Bumfuck when the shit hits the fan. I've had my Accent L 2000 (Amenityless) for over 5 years now and I have had a few problems but nothing major. I had some clutch problems one night in major traffic when it started to get soft on me as I was riding it. No choice. GWB into NYC - If you live in NYC you know what I mean. Hasn't reoccurred so I think it was just that the clutch heated up but I have 5,000 miles on it since then and had it looked at by my AAA mechanic. He gave me the green light and said the clutch oil may have gotten too hot or something like that. I'm no mechanic but I'll tell you this - If you bought the Accent to race you should have bought a Honda 300 cc motorcycle which would blow away both the Accent and/or the Civic. That ways a little less than either etc. Not a good racing car but I'm not Mario Andretti either unfortunately.
