I went to best buy the other day wanting to get a mediocre amp to power a few new speakers, nothing special, but i ended up walking out with a really nice fosgate amp, and now im trying to scrounge enough cash for MORE! does anyone else have this problem?

Oh man when I first got subs and stuff I went throught them like water. Either I was replacing or just unsatisfied and changing around. I went throught like 6 different setups of subs and amps. But now I can proudly say, barring any unforseen accident, I am done for a while!!

the first 3 #'s are power rms, the next # is # of channels.
ie: 2002=200/2
4004=400/4
8002=800/2
etc

well.. dont rip on him too bad.. id say fosgate is abotu the best thing best buy has to offer.. so on that note id say you made a decent choice.. hell id run a fosgate if they didnt cost so damn much.. granted they run a little hot.. theyre pretty decent amps and dont play the bullshit number games at least.. but i mean there is always better.. but then again.. 'better' is also subjective... lol

haha, I started in on this car audio stuff because of this... I wanted some bass w/o blowing my 6x8's. I got a little bass from 1 12", then I got a little more with 2 12"s, then I needed more power for my highs, so I got a 4 channel amp, then I "needed" (that means I just wanted them) better speakers, so I bought new 6x8's..... yada yada yada, now I have 6 6x8s and a pair of tweets, and 2 12"s and it never will be good enough. Dont you guys all just love that feeling your ears get when there is too much bass to handle? They feel cold at first, then they hurt, then they go numb, and they feel like theyre bleeding, and you STILL turn it up! I love that shit!!!!! lol, god, I hope they learn how to make deaf people hear within 10 years, because Im gonna need them to do that for me.

I hate it when my ears adjust to the point it's like I'm listening to a 4 inch driver in a PC multimedia setup when in reality I'm probably pounding bass that can be heard a mile away. That's the point that addiction takes over and you keep upgrading and upgrading, never ending up satisfied.

You Know Your Addicted When:

-You Drive an '89 Civic Hatch Back (a.k.a. Jelly Bean) so you can afford a $5,000 stereo to put in it.
-You Know More about why XBL^2 works than why Newtons 3 Laws of Basic Physics work.
-Its Seems funny to you when someone doesnt know Ohm's Law by heart.
-Your run 8awg Speaker wire to your 200w front stage because you think cutting your resistance by just a little bit will give you that extra dB and SQ up on the next guy who only used 12-14awg (ptshhh)
-If it isnt a 15, it isnt a woofer
-You have Dolby 5.1 in your vehicle even though you have no Screens much less a DVD player. this is just incase they ever stop recording music in 2ch Stereo and stert recording in 5.1.
-Your Dream is to have your car THX certified.
-When it comes down to it. sony isnt so bad, but you wouldnt admit that to your friends...and they wouldnt admit that to you.
-you know Roxford Fosgate is Crap
-MTX is crap
-Audiobahn is crap
-Kicker is crap
-etc.....
-You sit quietly as your over hear ignorant little spoild brats brag about their 9,000 stereo system and how great JL w6v2's are and how W7's are the loudest on the market...and giggle.
-Audiobahn with XBL^2...MUHAHAHAHAHAHA
-you know nothing Can beat a Brahma
-Enstein's Theory of Reletivity makes sence in some weird way. "so if i fly to the nearest star and back at a constant speed of 0.6C i will come back to earth over 2 years younger than everyone else?"
-You cant spell Enstein.

You know your addicted when (and these are all original):
-Your fantasy is to have a wall of xxx's ..... instead of sex w/ a beautiful woman
-You skimp on things like 3 meals a day and money for school just to upgrade your system
-ok me and my friend is guilty of this.... when you rip one you rate it in subwoofer size and type ..... DOOD holyshit that was a xxx 18!!!!!!
-XBL^2 is the greatest thing since sliced bread
-A brahma is not a bull, A shiva is not a goddess, a mealstrom is not a term to describe big conflicting waters, a tempest is not a violent wind, and a parthenon is not the main temple of athena....theyre all kickass subs
-mmats is properly pronounced as "matts"
-you say triple x not x x x
-you would never say it but xxx's are overrated
-you've had fantasies abou your subwoofer's pole vent (sorry xxx and MT users)
-you sit here and post all day an make dumb shit like this up just cuz you love to

CBFryman
01-08-2005, 07:42 PM
well I have/do

-Dreamed of having sex with a beautiful woman while listening to a wall of XXX's
-Used the money my mom gives me for lunch every week to save up for stereo equiptment (hey $15 a week adds up over time)
-XBL^2 IS the greatest thing since sliced bread AND apple pie.
-X X X stands for sex sex sex
-ran 8awg when i only needed 14awg purposely (as in i payed extra for the wire, now like i had some extra 8awg lying around)
-It isnt a woofer unless its a 15... doesnt everyone know that
-i learned ohms law before i learned to spell Antidesestablishmentaryanism (sp?)
-Installed 5.1 Dolby Digital in a car with out a DVD player or Monitors
-Understand E=MC^2 and all of the explainations with the trains and all
-Picked up enclsoures on the side of the road that where set there for trash pick up to take the woofers apart and plug them into a wall. etc... and take the motors off of them to add to my collection of motors in my closet. i dont know which is bigger, my collection of motors, my colection of shot glasses, or my collection of blown woofer memories.
-plugged tweeters into the wall. they dont do much visually.

I hear you there.....

I'm on my 2nd sub, 4th set of speakers, 2nd headunit, 2nd substage amp, and 4th front stage amp, and that's in the last year and a half. I don't feel like adding it all up, but I've probably spent close to $6000 in the last year and a half on car audio equipment, and I won't even go into home audio equipment.

RickwithaTbird

im gonna add to the list of, "you know youre addicted to car audio when..."

-you think of gas money as entertainment because that means you get to drive around and listen to your stereo
-you go to mcdonalds at 3 am just to get an excuse to go listen to your stereo while you eat in the parking lot of Meijers for 30 minutes
-you put more money in your stereo every month than you put in your gas tank
-If youve ever said youd like to get a submarine so you can put a system in it to try and hit 250 db... lol
-your car has more electrical tape and butt connectors in it than ACE hardware
-you know what butt connectors are, (lol, j/k)
-youve got a collection of spare amps, subs, 6x8s, 6.25's, 5 1/2's, 6x9's, etc. along with hundreds of feet of spare speaker wire that you just know you'll need eventually.

and besides all the money and equipment, lets not forget about the thousands of hours we spend working on it all... who else takes their front seats, back seats, dash and carpet out of their car for 3-4 days just to clean up old installations since you have nothing new to install? I do that all the time. If theres nothing new to install, Im messin with whats already in there until the last minute that I have to put it all back together. I get a lamp and an extension cord, and I stay inside my car from 8pm to 8 am making anything and everything just a little bit better, and then I'll do it again the next day. ITS NOT RIGHT!! but I love it! its more than a hobby... its a passion. I love my car more than I like girls. If thats not addicted... wtf is?

I had a similar situation. Went to a local shop called Hoopers and asked them how much it would be for a 3 cf ported and tuned to 28hz and they laughed and said nobody tunes that low and that most tune to about 50 or something. I was like, yeah with the shitty speakers you sell you would and I walked out.

Like sr20 said... that was low. I cant afford new subs right now which is the only reason I have 2 Xplods... At one time they DID bump (Im not saying they bumped like brahmas or anything so dont even start on that shit, but they got me "heard around the block" and if you dont believe me I dont care) but that was before they were over 2 years old. I will amit that they really do suck NOW.

Oh and, you know youre addicted to car audio when you get mad that people tell jokes in the car audio forum. and when you have to randomly dis on other peoples systems, like an asshole.
