going from np249 to 231

In a 94 gc 4.0 , if i want to switch from the np249 to a 231 t case, what all do i need to do, or is this a direct swap nothing needed but 231?

no it is not a direct swap, you will need to get a longer Shift linkage, and also you will have to take the front imput shaft out of the 249 and put it in the 231.
actually this is what you have to do when swapping the 249 for a 242. I am not sure about the 231

There is a good article at www.jeephorizons.com by swampboy, first he did the 242 and the went to a 231. There are few things in life that are a direct fit and this is not one of them.

I've got all the parts for this conversion available out of a 1995. Front axle, transfer case, shifter, console, driveshafts (front and rear). Let me know if you are interested. [email protected]

I've got a 231, I think newman is going to buy the remainder of my parts Jeep. At a smokeing deal I might add. :) If not I'll post again.

I can get you whatever parts you need for cheap. A friend of mine also just did the swap on his 98 and he said it was very easy.
