problem with Raybrig NSX decals & removing decals

Hey, i just put on the first small decal of the nsx and it seems to be extremely fragile. It ripped in one spot and it dried much faster than usual. I dont have as much time to put it in place, even using the micro sol. I was wondering if anyone has any tips. Thanks

How hot was the water you soaked it in and how much/long did you leave the Micro sol on for?
Did you wet the surface of thre model were the decal was going?
Is the paint smooth so the decal can "flow" nicely over it?

Hey, im currently doing the tamiya raybrig nsx and i just put on the first decal. I put the micro sol on the wing of the car and then put the decal on after holding it in water for 15 seconds. It would not move and dried up where it was put on.... I managed to get about half of the decal off and the other half is all scratched up and looks like shit. Somebody please help me. Thank you

Welcome. :wave: Wrap some masking tape around your index and middle fingers with the sticky side facing outwards. Dabbing at the decal with the tape should lift it right off.

If you have some micro set just brush some of that onto the decal and after some time it will loosen up, good luck!

i am using the micro sol and it just sticks right to the car. I think it might be because i airbrushed the paint on. i have never used an airbush before and i think the paint might have messed it up a little bit.. I just decided to put on the honda symbols and i kept it all the one color, it still looks okay but not what i was hoping for. ill just have to try it again some time with the ts-57 and see how it comes out. for now im just waiting for my honda pons to come in the mail.... thanks for the info.

Are you using Micro SOL? (the red bottle)

If so that's your problem, it's powerfull solvent that makes the decal soft to conform odd surfaces. You only use it when the decal is already in place. Make sure you're using micro SET (the blue bottle)

How are you using the Microsol? In my experience some Tamiya decals can melt very quickly with Microsol. Especially the decals that have areas of clear on them, I imagine the Raybrig livery has a fair few of those.

If you need to use a setting solution I'd recommend you don't use it until after the decal is well positioned. In fact if you are having trouble then it might be prudent to stop using the Microsol completely.

Also if you're having trouble with the decal sticking too quickly then make sure the surface is wet with water or Microset before applying the decal. Doing that will give you time to move the decal. When it is in the right spot, press it down with a tissue or cotton bud, to get the water and air out from underneath. You might need to moisten them to stop them sticking to the decal and pulling it off.

Oh yeah, microsol will melt just about any decal it touches within seconds. Only use it on curved surfaces! Using microsol on flat surfaces will usually cause a rough surface. My technique for Tamiya decals is to soak them in water for about 15-20 seconds (even up to 30 seconds for older ones). Then take them out of the water and lay them face up on a dry paper towel. I let it sit for another 20-30 seconds.

Usually comes off great. Also remember to dab your finger in water if you need to reposition the decal.
