Electrical problems

Recently, I have started to notice an electrical problem with my 98 528. If I open either vanity mirror the radio turns off and the tilt wheel goes to it's reset position in the middle of driving. The problem is slowly progressing. Now sometimes I get in the car and start it up and there is no response from the radio at all. Then other times everything works fine. That is until I attempt to open the vanity mirror. Has anyone else had this type of problem?

I have similar problems. My steering column goes up and somw as well when opening the vanity mirrors. All electricals on my steering wheel has died, and the airbag light is always on. My problem started one by one as well.

I have checked steering wheel wiring harness (no problem there) and all fuse related areas(no problem there). I am now looking at the ignition switch as I heard that can cause some trouble...

No I have not found the problem yet. it seems to be moving from one thing to another. My airbag light was on for a while, but it is back to normal again. I just hope it is not the sign of something about to go wrong. these cars are great to drive but I have always had problems with bulbs going out since I bought it.

I am sure you have already found the issue, but just in case, here it goes......... I had the same issue a few months ago and the actual issue is the ignition switch. There is an issue with the current one and the car is not recognizing that the key is in the ignition. That is why the lights are dimming and the vanity lights are acting silly and lastly why the steering wheel is going up and down. These are the normal things that happen when you really take the key out of the car. I thought my car was posessed but come to find out it was much easier than that.
