Engine Movement

I purchased a 2005 Passat with auto tran and a 1.8T engine. I just noticed that when I shift into reverse from park the engine and front end moves down 4-5 inches. When I shift to drive from park the engine and front end move back up to their original position. At night you can even see the lights move up and down when shifting.

I took it into the dealer who of course did not know if this was normal. They checked the motor mounts and they are good. Ho did say the mounts have a jell fill in them.

Does anyone know if this is a normal feature in the Passat? I can't seem to find anyone who knows. My other cars do not do this.

I haven't noticed it on other Passats. A little would be normal, but 4-5" sounds very unusual.

Thanks I hope it is normal. I think I will go back to the dealer and have them start up some 2005 Passats and check the engine movement while shifting from park. I will let everyone know what happens.
