hey guys. i was looking at the thread down bellow and it said the cheapest way to get hp is reduce weight...so what is the cheapest, least expensive way to reduce weight? i heard on the light weirght m3 they took of the underhood insulation...what would happen if i took it off of my 1993 318is? casue all it does it sit there and look ugly and it looks pretty thick and heavy...what does it actually do? and is there nething else that is cheap to do? thanks!

weight loss is really about what you can live without. Trunk lining can go, spare tire and jack (sucks if you get a flat though), interior floor mats. and there is sound deadening material everywhere - in the doors, under the hood, behind the seats. You could go all out and gut the interior, passenger seats/seatbelts, door panels, window retract motors, glovebox, stereo, AC pump under the hood.

Now, all that said, I gutted a an old celica with the intent on making a dedicated autocrosser. After taking everything out that didnt directly make the car go, it really wasn't that much weight. I'd estimate 100 lbs max. Cheap, yes. Worth it? For a racecar, but not a daily driver.
