Hot Wheels Project Fordy (Progress)

Was out today, bought something I've been looking for...and will buy more later. Its a 1940 Ford Coupe. I'm going to sand blast it tomorrow. After that I will remove all the atrocius mould lines seen in the pictures below. Then modify the hood. I probably wont do anything about the misfit grill. It will all be covered in some color with some flames. No decals.

You take a drill bit and drill them out

NOMADGAMER

yeah i drill them out as well. its a shame its a 1/64, i remember when it was afirst edition, the red one with tampo's, they blew off the shelves and i couldnt get one for a very long time...

ashame its not 1/18 or 1/24 at least...

IMO it need some 1/64 Dubz

Yes, I just drilled out the rivet.

All of you think that you cant do shit to a diecast if its anything smaller than 1/18. This isnt my first, and isnt my last 1/64. I'll be building several, including a period hot rod just for Tim.

I'm hoping you enjoy this project, and I hope it will inspire you to start modifying!

Dubz? This isnt Pimp My Ride. Im keeping the fuelies.

I hope y'all stay tuned!

Trust me I started out as a 1/64 collector and customizer. I love the hotwheels limited editions where they are more detailed and have real rubber tires, but they get more expensive as well...

On the Plus side, 1/64 takes a lot less paint and theres less pieces too lose, maybe thats just me but i lose shit from my 1/18 and 1/24's easily, especially if its a small detailed piece.

I just want people to not be afraid of modifying, or think something is too small.

Thank God, I was beginning to think i was the only who doesn't put over sized wheels on anything and everything. Great project choice, I've done a couple 1:64, I love to do 'em as quick projects that don't take much time or detail.

Sounds like a plan to me. I have a 10 gallon trunk full of hotwheels & other 1/64's

I like Modifiers :-D

UPDATES:

Sandblasted it today. Paint came off in about 2 minutes because it was so small. With all the paint removed you could see all the horrible mould lines. I sanded those all off in abou two hours time, as well as reshape the hood. Next I sanded the entire body with 320. Washed it with soap, then went to putty. Later I'll sand the putty.

After sandblasting:

Cool? How do you sandblast? Do you spray something afterwards? What is the difference and the advantage between sandblasting a 1/64 model car than to just drop it in Brake Fluid? Can't wait to see the paint.

At school we've got a sandblasting booth. Its got a gun with an air hose, and another hose to the sand. At 120PSI you spray glass bead and it rips the paint right off.

Advantage....2minutes vs 2 hours. It does rough up the body, and it will move metal. So it does take a bit of finess with small detailed soft metals. Then afterwords sand with 320.

Thats pretty cool, I might try modding a HotWheel now that I know how to get the thing apart.

UPDATES:

Layed down the first stage of about five. The base was Tamiya X-1 black. Lightly wetsanded and polished for the next stage. There is some orange peel, but they will all be buffed out after the clear coat so Im not to worried about it.

I'll probably leave the wheels that are on there. On my other Fordy I will use some Torque Thrusts.

The paint is sort of a lets see if my idea works sort of thing. Im trying out a new technique with the airbrush and some old school tricks of the trade. So the result should be a dark marbalized blue with ghost flames.

Your gonna free hand flames on that with an airbrush? What kind are you using? Even those really nice flames in those pics I showed you from the airbrush site the guy used a template.

Been working away at the paint. Im ony the 4th stage so far. I just color sanded the translucent blue over the marbled titanium gold leaf. Tomorrow I'll lay down another coat of blue, then wetsand and clear.

I had no idea that you could really do anything to a diecast, but this looks amazing...inspiring me to work on my plastic 57 Chevy hot rod and also to go get a 1/64 Hotwheels to modify...thanks!
