fox wont start

hey i just got a 93 vw fox it was running just fine but when i tryed to start it this morning it just wont start,i took off the fuel hose and the pump seems to be working fine,then i got the cable from the coil and it is not sparking at all.i took the coil to an auto zone and i was told that it is working well i actually tried 2 more coils and nothing!does anybody knows what can it be? i apreciatte any help!thanks!

Pull the distributor harness connector & see if you have 12 Volts betwen the outer two pins with the key on.

hey thanks a lot for taking the time to help me out!
we actually have two fox here with the same problem my rommate has one as well! on his car the mechanic came here and changed the distributor and it still not working so the guy said it should be the coil wich the guy at aouto zone said its working fine.im not a mechanic i just like to try to fix things myself before i spend some cash. even know that the distributor was changed do u think i should try to do what u told me? i dont have a voltimeter so i dont know how am i gonna do that ive read some things here about the control unit!do u know anything about that??? one more time thank u very much for ur help i really apreciatte it!

If the car doesn't crank @ all it's most likely your starter - I had this happen to me - the wires became so corroded that it needed to be rewired in order for the solenoid to charge the starter itself - need specifics though - any specific symptoms? (Sounds, slow crank? No crank?) I've dealt with alot of Fox probs - hopefully this helps though!! :)

I have replaced both the starter and synenoid and now my car will "push start" again. I get no clicking when I turn the ignition to start, but the dash lights do come on. I am going to look at the ignition switch and the neutral safety switch next. I am very grateful to any of you "know-it-alls" who can HELP ME!!!!! Peace out.
