Clutch pedal to the floor, won't shift

Hello.
I have inherited a '91 Ford F150 4x4 5 speed (O.D.) manual trans. and the clutch pedal suddenly (went to hell in about a 3 day time span) goes all the way to the floor and I can't get the thing to shift into any gear. Does not leave any tell-tale fluid puddles when parked.
Would appreciate any information you might have on this subject. Thanks.

Did you check the fluid reservoir? It should be filled up with brake fluid (DOT 3 or 4)

A buddy checked the reservoir when this happened. It was low, so I filled it up. No luck. Tried several times to pump it and get something to happen.
Mechanic in town says "air in the line", but doesn't have much to offer in the way of "do-it-yourself" advice. Any instructions? Is this going to be expensive? I know how to handle a wrench and don't mind getting dirty.

have someone to help you and down on the slave cylinder is a little screw which is your bleeder screw. Open it up and have your buddy push down on the clutch pedel and hold it to the floor until you tighten up the bleeder screw. Check your fluid freqeuntly as it is a small res. and emptys quickly. you might have to do thisd several times to get all the air out of it.

i have a 89 F250 with ZF 5 speed. hydraulic clutch. pedal went to floor a year ago. now i add a spoonfull of fluid once a month. believe the piston on the clutch is leaking. can this be changed outside, or do you need to pull trans.

K, (guys be nice to me despite my log on name) I have worked on many a ford, I own an 82 and it is a good truck. My buddy too inherited an 91 ford with a manual trans. His tranny was toasted, so I got a new one, replaced the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, throwout bearing, master and slave cylinders. I replaced everything, bled all correctly, then it would not engage, I bled the system more times than I care to admit. Then one day out of frustration I hit the clutch pedal with my fist, it moved sideways. It was only about 1/8th of an inch of play(side to side), but when you take into account the total throw, it was enough to make it not engage. I called the ford dealer, the only place you can get one (a junk yard was only $10 cheaper), for the clutch pedal assembly. The whole friggin thing, when I got it in, everything worked like it should.

I dunno if this is your problem, but check it out, this clutch pedal would not come all the way up, I would have to pull it back the last 2 inches, then I would press it down by hand, it would "jump" down until it began to have pressure behind it, then the last 1 inch it would fall to the floor.

When I was talking to the parts guy, he said that Ford had such a problem with the 90-93 assemblies that he kept 3 in stock!

But yours sounds like a fluid leak, as stated before, the slave or the master could be an issue. Get a good Chilton's and have fun getting dirty.
