Before I wrote to the english coordinator, basically my teacher gave me a D but I deserved a C-. At mason, a 1.67 is a C- (I got a 1.87). So seeing more bs, I e-mailed the teacher, and she actually had the gall to say ENGL302 doesn't offer a C-!! Well I e-mailed the english coordinator and he says otherwise. He says I will have to take it again though so it doesn't matter (below a C is not passing). So I get pissed, and wrote this back to him:

Dear Mr. Matz,

I think my professor has graded me very unfairly in the class. I checked her grading scale syllabus at: http://mason.gmu.edu/~draffel/302n06fallsyl2004.htm . When I have read her syllabus before, I do not recall a grading scale until now. This has led me to believe she has added it recently (end of the semester, not beginning) because she was possibly notified by the english department. Another reason is she graded me by the 4.0 scale, since I received a 1.87 out of 4 from her e-mail. I tried to calculate my grade under her scale on the syllabus but found that I could not because the 100-point grading system is different than the 4.0 grading system.

Also, with the e-mail I fowarded to you, she made each of my grades weighted even, and was not scaled like in her syllabus. My papers have also only been given a letter grade, and not a percentage. I have saved my papers if there is any verification needed. Also, I would also like to have someone read my papers. When the group have read my papers they believed my papers were thorough and good, yet I received low marks. On my final research paper I had 2 college graduates, one graduating from UVA with high marks who read it and thought it was a good paper (and is usually critical of my papers). I e-mailed an explanation from my teacher, and all she said was that it was a "basic how-to" paper when it was pretty technical but also easy to read like she has stated numerous times during the class.

One more thing that I believed the professor was unfair to me was the pass/fail assignments she has had in her class. I have only missed one class during the semester, and maybe only 3 pass/fail assignments. I have done all the others, which was around 20-30 at least. She still only gave me a C. She has not shown students how many pass/fail assignments they have completed and how many were given out.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

As you can see, I am given even more bullshit. I think she edited her syllabus right after I e-mailed the head of english department that she didn't tell us how the grades were waited. But, I caughter her red-handed b/c she put a 100-point scale on her syllabus in my class WHILE USING A 4.0!!

Man I hope I don't have to take this class again, waist all that time and money. Pray for me!

yea I can take it with a different instructor. I'd much rather not take it all though of course, it'll cost me around $800 as well as 3 hours per week for something that I already know

You're just asking for a fair shake, and the C to get out of the class. If she graded it at 1.87, and that's a C-, and the English department says there are c-, then you should be good to go. Sounds like she's rousting you for some reason.

C- doesn't count as passing, a C is. So I have no choice but to try to try to start an investigation and get her fired, and somehow get me to pass the class. So I can't settle for a C- anymore, but go for the gold! Which is firing my shitty biased teacher

But if there's one instance of her not giving you the grade you earned, there may be others. And getting her fired is not necessarily the object, it's getting past the class, isn't it? If you work to get her fired, you're a disgruntled student. If you work for the grade you deserve, then you're a student that interested in learning and being treated fairly. A bit of difference that the English department may find refreshing.

yea I'm working to get the grade I deserved pretty much. Getting her fired is icing on the cake but that's not my objective.
