Battery concern

I just recently acquired a 1983 300SD from my father, I love this car drives like a champ. I put a new battery in the car,but my battery indicator light is still showing up. I have started the car several times and it kicks over just fine, but always that dang light stays on. Is there a way to check why this is staying on?

if its your first mb, youre definitly sure its the battery light right? my brake sensor and batt light comes on when i start my 300CD and will stay on untill the first time i accelerate. it does it everytime- dont know why, it just does.

anyways, whats your output voltage from your alternator for starters?
