Air Conditioner Compressor

Help - I've got a '91 Voyager that I'm trying to bring back from life support. I've been told that the AC compressor has seized up and needs to be replaced. The only sympton is a very grinding sound - belt or pulley??. I don't want to replace the compressor - is there any way to bypass the AC (cut it off) and continue to drive the car? I've been told this is possible by a friend but can't find any info. Thanks.

It's OK if you remove the V-belt to disable the compressor. Car should run fine without it. Just don't put the AC on. When compressors seize, the belt usually rips off anyway.

thanks for replying but I'm still a little confused - the guy I spoke with said that the belt had to be re-routed not just removed (would have to purchase a different belt). Can you give me any more details about your idea?
