I don't have a manual for the vehicle but was curious about something that happened today.
It is snowing here today and on my way to work today I was in 2hi and the button for 2hi lit up which it has never done before, it was orange in color. I put it in 4hi to pass some moron going 20 and then when I was clear I put it back into 2hi and the light did not come back on.
My guess is that there may be a sensor or something to detect when the rear wheels are slipping too much and the light came on to suggest I put it in 4 wheel drive. I did spin a bit first coming off my road which never gets plowed and heads up hill.
Am I right or is it something else?

What ever button you have selected, it should be lit continuously. The truck isn't smart enough to suggest you select 4Hi, 4Lo, or 2Hi.
You most likely have a bad bulb.
The switch unit is removeable by prying it out (gently) with a flat bladed screwdriver or something similar.
The bulb itself is a twist-in do-dad, GE 176 I believe
