carb question

Ok im looking for a good carb for my 72 chevelle, 350 stock heads .224 .234 dur, .466, .488 lift cam. 4 speed manual trans. i will be reving to aroung 5700. I figure i will be looking at around a 650 cfm carb so i have a little room to build. From what i have read having mechanical secondary's is a good thing with a large cam.. but i also want to have a electronic choke. is my thinking correct? im looking at demon carbs as well...

For a mild engine such as you describe, I believe you would be best served by a Holley 650 vacuum secondary, or a well prepared Q-Jet.
Demons are Holley "knock-offs", and have been known to use misleading information in their advertising and ratings. A "650 Demon is not really rated at 650. it's more like a Holley 750, but by using the smaller number, they let you ASSUME it's a rating. FWIW, at the Indy Nats, I looked at the BG pro stocker. I believe he means that Demon carbs use the same modular design as Holleys and can use some of the same tuning parts.
Demon carbs supposedly do not have some of the minor problems that Holleys have, such as using a check ball to reduce the change of a carb backfire from rupturing the power valve.

I think having a manual you would be OK with a mechanical secondary carb, and finding one with E-choke shouldn't be to tough.

You are bang on with the Demon 650. I had a Holley and it worked great. I just recently bought a 650 Demon With vac. secondaries and an electric choke and I love it. It works way better than my Holley did. I had the Demon apart to change the jets and they are made much better than the Holley also. Billet base and billet metering plates. Just my opinion though.
