the ka is a better design then the SR and will always make more power
Horseshit!

Wow, dude, careful, you don't want to over-explain your point of view.
ANyways, it's not that I don't like rotaries, it's that I don't want one because I have no idea where to start when it comes to working on them, or what to modify.

Horseshit!
Enough said.
Its not completely horseshit. Both engines have thier strong points.
But I would take the KAs valvetrain over the SRs anyday.
Then I would take the SRs forged internals anyday over the KAs cast pistons.
IT goes on and on.

allot of engine room? the FD is a bit bigger then a miata, so true ANY motor in the FD will be too big.
i don't know about the turbo thing dough...
anyways i'm glad that i have a motor that has pistons, it is sooo hard to work on rotary motor! i was helping my freind chane his spark plugs....OMG what a JOB!

valvetrain of the KA is better? how?
sorry don't get it?!
the sr's use rockers and can mess up at high rpm, that is a COMMON problem with sr20det's... and they make quite a few parts that help out
anyhow 2jzgze's, rb26dett, KA etc all share the same type of valvetrain setup
if u want a more technical standpoint on this let me know, or u can search around, I just feel like getting waisted right about now.
and as far as the horseshit is concerned, the Ka has more displacement and a better flowing head believe it or not. Both engines running the same fuel, same turbo, same boost, everything else the same like exhaust, intercooler the KA is going to make more power... its a fact the KA flows more air and has the room to make more power....
think of it like this, chili is engine power, you have two bowls which represent the engine. One bowl is smaller then the other, more chili fits into the larger bowl. YOu can have more chili with the larger bowl

...but if the chili tastes like jello, what's the point? :D
You are only talking .4 liters here. If the KA was so much better why in the world does everyone WANT an SR? The way I see it....SR bashers are generally just SR wanters in reality. You see MUCH more SR swap-ins than KA swap-ins. The KA is a fine engine....just not turboed. I, for one, LIKE the turbo. Sure, you can get a turbo kit....but....heck the SRs generally already HAVE that.

OMG LIKE ANOTHER KA VS SR THREAD!!11!11wack!11!111
- You can argue all day about which motor is better and for what reason. I personally favor the SR over the KA just because I prefer engines with some Finese (F20C, SR, 4AG) to huge all out torque monsters (KA, most V8s) but have no reason not to like the KA (But since KA owners get but-hurt so easy I like to make fun of them). Trying to convince a person which one to like or to get is in my opinion a waste of time.
- The Rotary when compared to similar engines. (no matter what the mazda fairys say its unfair to consider them a 1.3L) like the RB26 and 1JZ the Rotary will always lose (aint physics a bitch). However what the Rotary does have going for it is weight and size and in the FC and FD has made very good use of that advantage. I personally dont see the rotary as a "time-bomb" either. give them good fuel and good cooling and they will run as long as every other turbo engine.

.4 liters can make a big difference..........
especially when your talking highly modified engines with turbos it will really stand out, you will have a better torque curve, boost will kick in sooner, you can make more horsepower on the top end as well....
why do people like SR's...?
i can counter that with another question
why do people buy Super Street?
shit more then half if not pretty close to all people these days who want a SR swap are just wanting that because some magazine said the KA sucks and doing an SR swap is the only way to make you car a cool dorifto wanna be "in"(popular) car.......Shit you can tell just by the types of questions newbies ask about SR's that they don't know SHIT
prove me wrong

Well, the RB26DETT only has .2l more displacement than the KA and it is capable of 1000whp+. How? It spins more RPM. More RPM means more air going through the engine.
You're right I do want an SR. Just not right now. And I definately don't want the price tag either.

sr20detpower, i think you just owned everybody here. 3/4 of the questions the newbs ask are absolutely ridiculous. just like the one that started this thread.
i personally don't like sr's (vs a ka-t) cause you start with more base torque on a ka, and with the same amount of invested money, i'm pretty sure a ka-t would beat an sr. the only reason the sr is cool is because the magazines make it out to be that so that performance and 'tuning' shops will have more people importing these engines (produces more income for both the magazine and the shops). figuratively speaking, pound for pound, i'd say the ka is better than the sr when you consider final tuning results.
the reason i left the rb out is because it doesn't compare to the sr or the ka. its a 6-cyl. and anything more than the rb20 costs more than the sr or a turbo ka, which then makes it not worth spending the money cause you'll get more out of an sr or ka-t than an rb20. .02

the rotary IMO is a time bomb, they always have overheating problems..and you cant install a very big turbo (unless you highly modded for drag). Japvillage has a really nice RX-7, with a 13b and the engine has blown 3 times in one year..I think it has 1600cc injectors (i swear, no joke)..They cut an inch out of the chassis and still could only fit a smaller TO4R in it...blown engine 3times by proffesionals, i wouldnt blame the mechanics for the flaw..but then again when you put down that much power you should be ready for a blown engine...

ok ok, can we get some moderation here, this is starting to get gay. someone close this bitch-fest down cuz this'll last foreverrrrrrrrrrrr. yall should just be glad we have 2 good engines to choose from, and the RB series if you're rich. JESUS!

dude i work across the street from this rx7 tuner...........
they are always running some badass shit, they do a nice professioal 20b swap that is jaw dropping, sometimes I check out what they got in the garage and really inspect their work, some 1st class shit
they MAKE their own supercharger kit for the new rx8 and I've seen those running around too, the best are the three rotor single turbo ones lol, almost inspires me to get a rotary
they always dyno testing, testing them on the street and I think they do some road racing stuff. They run pretty good and reliably too, most of the people their have fd's as daily drivers.... only onve I've seen not running and towed back was one that wrecked on a test drive i presume

no, were thinking of different people then, this guy is in UK. www.japvillage.co.uk. They dont post anything on the rx7 or there yellow supra they have (its a beutiful supra, but you can see them both on the front page. The cars are also both RHD so i doubt they are the same ones your thinking of..Still, sounds cool to get to work across the street from a sweet tuner!

people swap in the sr because thats the new thing, and since its been tuned in japan for years, there is more open info and also parts selection for it....sort of like alot more people want 240's now..why?? because drifting finally hit the states. I would say ka-t over sr, because its cheaper in my eyes and you'll be buying all after market shit for the ka. You'll be buying all stock shit in the sr that you will most likely be swapping off to put on aftermarket stuff. SO whats the point?? Sure its a great engine and yes i would still take one, but as far as swaping goes i wouldnt buy an sr. I would go straight to rb25. Sure its more expensive but its that much faster STOCK. well besides the intake manifold you have to use for fitment...but you get the point still.

I wouldn't mind getting an SR just because the ECU is already set up for running a turbo. The KA ECU shit is just annoying.
