If you have two keys you could try holding one key in the unlock position of your drivers door and then starting your car.it used to work for me hope it does for you.

Sounds like you might have a bad alarm microswitch in the driver door. If the sensor doesnt activate correctly when the key is turned then the alarm will not dis-arm.

I have a 1997 Volkswagon golf and we are having the same issue with our alarm system. Since the first occurrence this past February, we have left the doors unlocked and then we never had to deal with it but last night the radio drained the battery and when we jumped it, the alarms went off and locked it up. We cannot afford to take it to a dealership. We have been all over that car. Did you ever figure out what to do?
Thank you for any suggestions you may have!

i found a quick fix to start the car would be, if you have two keys, to hold a key in the disarm position of the door and then start the car, but if that doesnt work you can unhook the wires for the alarm (located above the fuse box which will un hook and come out of the way). Reach up above the fuse box and unclasp the wire harnesses,if you place a wire between the two largest wires of the larger wire harness this will bypass the alarm to the starter. you shold be able to start the car,My alarm is unhooked this way and the car apoeratees normally ,has for months
