99' Prelude 195-hp, 2.2-liter I-4
VS
94' 3000gt 222hp, 3.0-liter V6
I own the 3000gt ... its a base model with exhaust, downpipe, intake, and crank pulley.
The prelude only has an intake.
Most people dont think i can take a prelude but i think i can.... i ran a 14.8 at the track .... anyone have any input on this subject? b/c this guy wants to race im just looking for a possible outcome
ps Both cars are 5-speed manuals

I'd put money on it myself if I were you, but just to be sure look under his hood to make sure he's not lying, let us no the results if you do it though. Nice lookin' ride btw, I really like it :)

I've tried to coax a few riced preludes into a race but none of them would go. I think you should have no trouble, you probably have at least 35 horses on him and if you realy ran 14.8 don't even launch lol.

well the problem i have is on the track i launch fine ... but on the street i always launch weird either stalling launch or spin out

race him and win by just a lil bit. than tell him he might of won if he had a little better launch. than if he races you again say the 2nd time will cost yo and bet him 50 and smoke him

Those H22 Ludes run like 15 flat stock, so I wouldn't say you'll smoke him. It should be close.

I'll bet my check you'd beat him, I've raced dozens of ludes and have never lost to single one and yes they where all 2.2 200hp. the last one was a H22A with I V-tech or is it V-tech I? I'm not sure any way he had intake, catback, and MSD and I just had an intake, I put a car on him by fourth, you'll beat him like a filfthy dog with your mods!

There close enough that its going to be a drivers race as Pearl said. Given equal abilities, your car should be the faster one.

I'm gonna take the bet that u would lose.
1. Your car is faster. However, ur stock HP is 222, his is 200 (on a manual prelude, it is 200 hp stock, 190 auto.) He's producing his power on a 4 cyl..ur on a 6 cyl....
2. What hurts u is the weight. Yes I know ur not in the "tank" but still ur weighing in at 3200 lbs. He's slightly under 3000 lbs.
3. PROVE ME WRONG PLEASE.
Either way it's gonna be close, race and see.

I have had the pleasure of proving you wrong! time and time again, and my car is slower then his. The lude is 3042 lbs to be exact and makes 200hp at 7000RPMs, it has a redline of 8000rpms, think about it by the time that cat revs up to 6500rpms it making short of 180hp while our cars are at 222hp already! Which one gets down the line quicker? trust me bro, its in the bag. I know cause I used to think Ludes where the shit and I even used to fear them cause I thought they would spank me, I faced my fears time and time again and now I know they aint crap!
the specs above are from the 99 Prelude Type SH I raced against. stock it goes 0-60 in 7.7 seconds, 1/4 mile in 15.5 @ 90.2 mph. I got the stats from Honda motors and yeah my friend did pull off a 15.3 at moroso so they are conservative figures but still, he made a it at 14.8! HE WILL WIN, so it shall be written so it shall be done.

Why? just to be different on a 3/S board? well you're probably the only one... :nono:
1. Your car is faster. However, ur stock HP is 222, his is 200 (on a manual prelude, it is 200 hp stock, 190 auto.) He's producing his power on a 4 cyl..ur on a 6 cyl....
OK...??? maybe my math is rusty, but last time i checked, 222>200. So when does being "faster" mean that you will lose to a "slower" car? Well as Yogs and Pearl have said, it comes down to the driver, b/c the power difference is small (within 22hp).
2. What hurts u is the weight. Yes I know ur not in the "tank" but still ur weighing in at 3200 lbs. He's slightly under 3000 lbs.
Ya you can play the 'weight card', but i think that's BS. there's not enough weight difference in any other cars on the market (excluding the exotic Lotus) that would make any sort of noticeable difference. So the Prelude has 200 lbs on the GT, well the GT has 20 hp on the Prelude: including the launch, i think the GT will take the lude.
What we should look at here is the hp/weight ratio. Assuming the Prelude weight is 3000lbs, we would have .065 for the Prelude (and if you use the 200hp figure, then go with .067). As for the GT-> .069
Either way it's gonna be close, race and see.
I agree, it will come down to the driver. good thing aKing has had some experience in launching, both on the street and at the track. So i'm gonna stick with aKing pulling out on top. But let's wait and see.

I have to disagree about the elise. A elise weighs under a ton, while the SL weighs like 3400lbs. I think the weight difference would make up for the lack of HP.

I thought thats what he was saying?
h22 vtecs are nice
the 3.0 dohc's in 3000gt's are nice
for me its just too close to call.
What if he's quicker on the clutch?
what if he does manage a better launch?
what if he shifts more efficiently in and out of his power band than you?
what if one of you misses a shift?
There are just so many what if's in racing and with specs like this even though the 3000gt seems to have an advantage there are always chances for error.
Given your experience I think you'd take him and I'm rooting for the 3000gt in full force. See if you can take him from a dig and a roll. Let us know hot it goes.

Granted none of those mods are outstanding but perhaps good for another 15 HP one would think? that makes the gap a few more than 22 HP between the two, just dump a few weighting thingys out of your car too ;) but don't tell him hehe.

YES, that IS what i was saying. The Elise is under 2000lbs (unheard of for the majority of sports cars!!!!) and one factor that gets it under that weight limit is the small motor it has. But still, the 1.8L toyota Celica engine with variable valve timing packs quite a punch when there's not much mass to move. Oh, and the composite/carbon fiber chassis and body helps too! For about 40 grand, if/when i ever have that kind of money to blow on a car, i would seriously consider that car b/c it handles like no other: very nimble and light, and pulls about 1.0g, if not more, if i remember correctly. you know what that spells...B.A.D.A.S.S.!
But back to topic, ya, aKing3000GT, you better smoke him with your bigger engine, more mods, and hopefully better driving skills.

Hey how much torque on the h22?
The H22 has like 162lb/ft torque. Not very much, but I've been in Civics with H22's and it gets the job done. Feels much stronger than that. And it gets up in the revs quickly. It's a different feel than the B series engines that require high revs.
