recently bought my 99 eclipse GST with 70k miles. had the timing belt, balance shaft belt, and water pump replaced today. i bought the car knowing it had to be done at 60k and had no records that it had been done. so i thought i'd rather be safe than sorry.

While the dealership was replacing the belts they found some more stuff wrong. a few bad seals on the engine where causing it to leak oil, (pison seals maybe). and the left trans axle seal was leaking trany oil. it ended up costing about $100 more than they origanail quoted me on. i figured i made out pretty good because they had dug in there so far that it was easy to do the seals. Also i figure given time all seals will go bad, it's nice i found mine before i started modding this summer. And before i do i'm chaning the coolant, fuel filter, and doing a 40 point inspection at the dealership.

So i can't stress it enough before you start doing any mods get your car checked over at a dealership. If you start puting power mods on your car before you even check the belts, breaks, coolant, trany fluid you are just asking for trouble.

Changing Valve cover can break something? I thoght it was just: 1) unscrew a couple screws. 2) remove T-Belt cover. 3) remove spark plugs. 4) pull off valve and replace w/ new or clean old 1?

you know you realy can brake something buy doing the Valve cover. You can brake the Valve cover if you tighten the bolts to hard it will crack it. (I did it before)

My DSM is slowly making a mecanic out of me. Becuase I do do all my own work, and I take those risks, my mechanic offered me a job working part timefor him. Now, I a big guy at Circuit City right now (bankin), and full time... so Im sticking around there for alittle more. But, its cool though that he likes seeing my ca to see what ive done. Good guy.
