1986 325 need help please!!!!

i have a 1986 325 i was having trouble starting the car but it would start after much cranking. anyways a close friend of mine told me that it was the intake giving me the problem so i replaced the intake but when i went to start the car after i replaced the intake it would not start it seems as though the starter is not engaging. the starter just makes a whining noise. i hooked up a bypass switch to the selnoid and the same result just a whining noise it seems to me as though the starter is not engaging. i am currently trying to take the starter off but cant seem to find all the bolt that attach it. if anyone has a diagram it would help immensley. also i dont think that just switching the intake would kill the starter if anyone has any ideas please let me know thank you very much for all your time and help.

Holy Cow, going the Long way around...Several checks first.... now it sounds like two problems..fix cranking problem first.. Then check for fuel,,, and spark,,,those are the most common problems. The starter bolt at the top of starter a bear to get outbut it can be done with socket, swivel, and extensions..Hope this helps...Later mark.

thanks for the help i got the starter off and tested it its not working so im going to get that rebuilt and start from there. the fuel is getting where it is supposed to i havent checked spark yet because i cant get the engine to turn over. again thanks a bunch. i really appreciate the help.
