looking for a 2.2L ecotec to replace my tired 2.2 non-ecotec. i have researched, yet come up with nothing for prices. the closest ive gotten is an ecotec for a 2000 - 2005 and runs at approx. 1600 bucks right outta the crate. obviously this motor wont work in my 97. any help would be much appreciated, thanks

im so lost. . .you said your looking for an ecotec for your non cavalier with the 2.2L engine, but you dont want a motor from a 2003 ecotec cavalier? Im so lost, do you want an ecotec or not? they are all the same no matter where you get it from.

i have a 2.2L, but its NOT an ecotec. i am trying to REPLACE it with the 2.2L ecotec. and as far as the new (2000 and up) 2.2L ecotec, it wont work in my 97... "the cavvy with the grey bumpers"

heh... this isn't a simple plug in play. From what i have heard its no walk in the park. It requires you to swap new tranny, engine mounts, and a totally new ECU and everything has to be re-wired and a new guage cluster is needed. But if your up to it, go for it!

i think you misunderstood what he was getting at crj... they didnt make a ecotec that will just fall into place of your current motor..

Oh... Its this damn cold i swear.. my brain is thinking before it absorbs the words... 240sx... i would try to find a motor from 98-01 and swap that in there that has low miles...price wise for an eco tec can vary dramatically... i've seen them from 2,000 used with 20K up to 5,000 brand new... but the 2200 i have seen go for a little less... man i feel like shit... i hate winter... i'm such a grinch..

you are right... as far as needing a new ecu and shit, but if i was to get an ecotec out of a lets say, 96 z24, it will drop in with no need for new motor mounts, but a new harness, ecu, and gauge cluster is needed. ive heard i can pick up an ecotec from a 96 z24 with decent miles for under a g. what do you think?

ecotec didnt get into production untill tale 2002, IT was not in an single cavalier till the end of 2002. YOu will NOT find an ecotec engine from a car made before 2002. The 96 Z24 has the 2.4L DOHC engine, a totally different engine.

Yeah it sound like you want a 2.4! Just get a 2.3 from a 95 Z24 they had more power!
