strange noise while driving

Hi,
I have a strange problem with my car: ZX2 model 1998, automatic.
I hear a high pitch noise comming from somewhere around the engine. This noise is comming when the car is in gear and only when the engine temperature gets to the middle of the temperature board indicator and only when I drive the engine to 2000 rot/min. Otherwise the noise does not appear. If I accelerate or I remove my foot from the acceleration pedal the noise dissapears.
When the vehicle IS NOT in gear and I press the pedal to get the engine to 2000 rot/min the noise does not appear.
When I hear the sound, the AC is OFF. I have tried to isolate the problem ...
Could somebody tell me where does the noise come from? Do you know if this is something serious?
Best regards,
Radu.

so its only from like 800rpm -2k rpm? hanve you had a person tap the gas while you are listening w. the hood up? I have a feeling its a belt, is it coming from the tranny or the engine area more?

I can't hear the noise from outside the car cause it's happening only when is in gear. From the inside I hear it only from 1900-2100 rpm.
I suspect a belt but why I don't hear it when it is not in gear?. Some friend of mine told me it could be the water pump because I hear the noise only when the engine warms up.
It has 70000 miles.
Best,
Radu.

I have this car since November so I have changed nothing so far. I am willing to go to verify it but I'm afraid they will not discover the problem. Anyway, it seems that nobody had the same problem as I have so far.
Best,
Radu.

Easiest way to tell if it is belt noise, spray the belt with WD-40 while it idles, then drive and see if the noise is gone temporarily. If so, you have a misalignment of pulleys, or sand or other debris embedded in the belt.

I have the same noise and it is comming from the transmission side of the engine. I've had the transmission out but can find no cause. Mine will do it while setting in park also, but only if the engine is warm and only after it has been driven (even a few hundred feet). Did you solve your problem?

I have a similar problem. Only I have a 5-speed. I have troubleshot it to be air/vacuum trapped in the engine somewhere. The reason I think this is because I can turn off the ignition.. watch the belts stop and then it will let off a little chirp/whistle after everything is stopped. Really weird. I've had every line off and checked. Can't find the source though.

I found the cause of my noise several months ago. Replaced the pcv valve. Go to NAPA or Carquest, cost is around $8.for the pcv valve and takes about 10 minutes to replace. My car hasn't made the noise for months.

I already replaced the pcv valve. Didn't help. I think I'm just gonna replace all the hoses for it. Maybe I have one collapsing somewhere.

If you pull your dip-stick out, and the noise goes away, it's pcv related. I have seen a post that said it was a crankcase filter. My engine doesn't have one. I went to Autozone, bought the pcv valve, put it in and the noise was better but still there. Bought a NAPA brand and it went away and hasn't come back.

your probleme is the crank case breather filter
its the small blac round box on top ove the valve cover
that is plug in 2 hoses.
it is clog
tack it out
blow some air in with a compressor and put it back your problem will be solved
sorry for my english.
