04 Civic EX coupe speaker question(s)

I have a 2004 Civic EX Coupe. It has 2 tweeters by the side mirrors, 2 front door speakers, and 2 rear deck speakers. I went to my local Best Buy store and looked on their computer for my car's speaker sizes, and it came up as both the front and rear speakers being 6.5". So I was looking at speakers there in the store, but decided to hold off due to free installation specials coming up. Well, today, I opened up my trunk and looked at the bottoms of the speakers. Now, maybe I'm crazy, but these speakers were oval shaped, so how can they be 6.5"? They seemed to be either 5x7" or 6"9", but I couldn't measure and it didn't say on the speakers. It just said 40W max 20W Nom. 4 Ohm Impedence. I looked through the owners manual to the car and it gives no speaker sizes or specifications....Can somebody help me out if they know any information as to all the speaker sizes, because apparently Best Buy is screwed up? I'm thinking maybe I have an upgraded stock system, different than the one they have for the 04 Civic EX 2dr. Coupe on their system. Any input is appreciated. Thank you. By the way, I'm new to this forum, so Hey everyone!

The 04 civic EX has either 6.5's OR 6x9's in the back. Thats what crutchfield has listed. Not to offend anyone who works a best buy, but id never shop there. Ive heard too many bad expierences So you have the 6x9's in the back. Maybe theres a dealer option for upgraded speakers and you have that. But yes they are in fat 6x9s and other 6x9's will fit.

yes you have 6x9's and they suck big time to replace you have to remove the rear seats, rear side trim panels, c pillar trim and then the rear deck its self.. so if you can free instal..go for it...

Thanks for the help guys. Sounds like a bitch to do myself, but given that Best Buy is doing free installs, I'll most likely get a headunit and some speakers installed there. I really have no clue if Honda had an upgraded audio package, but I got what I got and that's what I have to deal with. I respect your opinion on Best Buy. Believe me....their computers don't have all the car info, the cause of my speaker size question, so I don't really know how much more reliable they can be, but I can hope so...oh well, thanks again for the help.

Look around your local car audio shops. If you're purchasing mid - high quality head unit + speakers, most of them will offer free installation. If not, check your local Circuit City. They don't do great job but they do offer free installations (at least in CA here). Circuit City even offer to move your purchased stereo system to your new car for free if you buy another car in the future.

Best Buy and Circuit City both only do the free install promotion on head units. The same applies for other competitors such as Car Toys, Ultimate Electronics, and Fry's Electronics. Not very many places if any will do speakers for free. Those cars came with 6.5"s all the way around for the basic system and 6.5"s and 6x9"s with tweeters in the front for the upgraded system. Either way, just throw some good 3-ways in the front and back and disconnect the factory tweeters or do components in the front as the stock tweeter location is rather cooperative in mounting an aftermarket tweeter in it's place. And yeah, the back speakers are a bitch. Even if you have to pay a shop $30-40 to do it, it's worth it. As far as Best Buy goes on their reputation, you can't just generalize like that. The quality of your install depends solely on the installer doing it and just like every other company on earth, you have good guys and bad guys. You just have to take a chance and rely on the lifetime warranty they give you on the job.
